So I was starting to get really stressed about my job. My prof isn't really giving me any direction, I'm just being shown how to do different things by the graduate students working for him, and that's it basically. He gave me some articles to read and said to basically do that, but they don't exactly give you a step by step procedure, just explain their results.
Usually I prefer having set guidelines as I have a fear of fucking things up. It can be pretty stressful to me. Other people I know working with profs are basically being shown what to do, and at first I was jealous, but then I got to thinking...basically they are lab assistants...and I'm a real scientist :D I'm diving into relatively unexplored territory, at least among people in my school. The CO2 foaming device hasn't even been used yet, so I'm the first, and basically I will be able to do my own experiments and find my own results. Plus I doubt my work will be important enough for publishing anyways, so really there's no need to stress out.
I'm starting to enjoy it a lot :D I even made a discovery today with one of the articles that in order to foam the polymer it has to be above the glass temperature, and the device doesn't have a heating system attached, so I might have to get the machine shop guy to rig something up for me.
Also, measuring shit with adjusting the polarization angles of a laser is awesome.
