I have competency exams this week. I've been assigned my first resident and will take care of her for 3 thursdays giving her meds as well as the rest of her care plan. The "rest of her care plan" contains the less glamorous part of nursing such as peri care, showers, enemas, changing diapers because she's 83 and incontinent. Did I mention one of her diagnoses is "agitation". Glad they gave me the happy-go-lucky one, right? :)
Haven't talked to my best friend in about a month. After about that long, "I'm busy" doesn't seem like a very reasonable excuse. I mean, if you truthfully consider someone your bestie, can't you find 5 minutes inbetween posing picture on facebook and leaving comments on myspace to call them and tell them what's going on with your life. Sometimes I sincerely hate technology because texting and commenting makes up for what really counts in relationships and friendships.
But, I digress; because truthfully I'm happier than I have ever been in my life, bar none. I love my friends in nursing school. They're more genuine and fun to be around than any other people I've met in my life.
I get to spend about 3 nights a week at Ken's. We rotate whether it's Penny or Charlie that comes over. I don't like overloading his brother with more than one cat at a time. While he pretends not to like them, Ken and I laugh about how he hogs the cats when they're over. Pets are good for everyone, even if you're a dog-person rather than a cat-person.
You guys should see Penny. My step-dad said he swears she grew inbetween the four days that he saw her last. She's so cute. I really should post some pictures. She's upstairs right now taking a nap with Amy, our 12.5 year old cat. They love each other intensely, like mother and child, and play together constantly. Charlie's grown to really like Penny too, although they certainly act like sisters rather than mom and kid.
Anyways, hope all is well.
