Last week we visited the wonderful State Library. Whilst i know i should be talking about our explorations of the Shakespeare room, and the amazing editions of the complete works that we got to view which, dont get me wrong, i really enjoyed viewing, I must admit my favourite part of the entire excursion was the trip down into the deep, dark depths of the Stack. I specifically marvelled at the collection of concert posters, old war propaganda, old advertisments and the like. It was a shame that we did not get to have a closer look at most of the different categories that the library had on offer, but I will be going back to have a better look in the near future!

The old advertising brochures were of particular interest to me. Once I finish this degree, i hope to start a course on advertising and communications. I have found a channel on youtube that contains Australian commercials of the 1980's and even earlier. It is fascinating to note the differences in the prices of food, and that some prices, when compared with the salaries of then and now, are actually less value for money than what we would get today... here is an ad from 1982, when coles was known as "Coles New World" and when advertising was colourful (because colour tv was new and exciting still), and tacky!
