China’s Han Geng is the first Chinese male actor to star in ‘Transformers 4’.

Congratulations are in order for Han Geng, because he just scored a role in the fourth installment of Michael Bay’s highly successful  franchise, Transformers. Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) congratulated Han Geng on becoming the first Chinese Male Actor to be cast.

Han Geng, who is one of China’s most well-known pop idols, has already a rich history with Viacom, apart from Paramount Pictures, through MTV and Nickelodeon. He was named the most Popular Mainland Male Singer at the CCTV MTV Mandarin Music Honors, which celebrates the best in music from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong in August 2012. This was followed by Han Geng’s win in the Worldwide Act category at last year’s MTV EMA, MTV’s global celebration of the year’s best in music and one of the most influential awards programs in the music industry. He emerged the winner after fans voted for an artist or group from within five different regions. Most recently, he won the Favorite Asian Act at the Nickelodeon’s 26th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards in March 2013.

“We are absolutely delighted to hear Paramount Pictures, which is one of Viacom’s brands, officially cast Han Geng in the next installment of this blockbuster franchise over the weekend. From the MTV EMA last year to this year’s Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, we knew he was a fast rising Asian star. We will continue to elevate more Chinese artists at international platforms, grow the awareness and appreciation of Chinese music and artists for fans around the world to enjoy,” said Indra Suharjono, VIMN Asia’s executive vice president and managing director.
