Who: Everyone!
When: December 31, 8 pm to Midnight or so
What: Being the one who has been throwing parties, Jennifer throws a New Year's shindig as well. Not as formal as Christmas, either.
Notes and etc: Everyone can come, friends of friends, etc.
Avengers' Tower was still as beautifully decorated as it had been for Christmas, but the feel of the penthouse was different. More festive, less formal, more fun. Egg nog and hot drinks except for coffee and tea were absent, made up for with magnums of champagne sitting on the bar like rows of gold capped soldiers, waiting to be opened and poured into the glasses waiting behind the bar. The fancy hors d'oeuvers were replaced with more casual fare, chicken wings, potato skins, good old fashioned American stomach killing food.
Instead of a fancy dinner, there are just more tables, this time with a dessert table as well, complete with a chocolate fountain and a small freezer with ice cream inside. Green garlands were replaced with gold and silver, confetti sat around artfully, and balloon arches reached up into the tall ceiling. Outdoors, the poinsettias had been left in place to keep with the edge of the building being guarded, but now there were chairs outside on the veranda, waiting for the evening fireworks to begin. Out on the veranda were also fire pits that burned with coals, keeping even the chairs near the edges warm. Blankets were draped over the chairs as well.
Jennifer popped a few bottles of wine open and settled wine stoppers in the top, waiting for guests to arrive. She had considered something as nice as she had last time, but had settled on a skirt, tall boots, and a sweater that dipped down nicely in the front, just on the line between modest and daring. As everything seemed to be done, she went ahead and began mixing martinis. It just was not New Year's Eve without a martini, if not a traditionally flavored one, in her hand.
