Soooo... It had been an interesting week. If, by interesting, one counted things like reading the most uncomfortable radio broadcast ever and seeing teachers jogging half-naked down the street and being teased about Sholeh by some girl he didn't even know and just squirming. A lot. And normally, Evan would just try to work off some of that extra

Even scrubbing down the library hadn't helped.
But last week hadn't been too awful and maybe this week they could just cuddle and read some more and that would be okay, right? The fact that Sholeh had been fantasizing thinking more about his arms wrapped around her than the books they could read was just a fluke. Yes.
Or...something something justification for her to do what she wanted anyway.
"Evan?" she called, lightly tapping on his door. "Evan are you there?"

And a birthmark, that strange girl had told him yesterday. On her inner thigh.
So, when Sholeh knocked, Evan damn near rocketed out of his bed and into the ceiling, barely managing to reign himself in before grabbing his magazines and stashing them under the bed.
"Sholeh! I'm here, yeah! Come in?"
This could not possibly go poorly.

Sholeh poked her head into his room, offering him a small smile. "Are you feeling all right? I can go if you'd rather. I just...thought I'd come by and say hello and maybe talk to you about your reading habits and stuff."

How did she know?
"My... my reading habits?" He blinked, and then licked his lips, and then blinked some more for good measure. "I... I mean, you're welcome in any time, but what about my reading habits?"
He was doomed.

And to hopefully keep anything untoward from happening anyway.
"What do you mean, what do I mean?" she asked, confused. "Just...talking about them, you know? I like the books we've read together."

That seemed like a safe enough statement on its own, right?

In fact, she was wearing fewer. She hadn't been able to bring herself to wear her chemise or the bustle cage.
"And radio is--" She stopped and blushed. "Well, you know how radio is."
Reply
Thanks, Radio. Evan had been uncomfortable since yesterday morning.
"But it can't last forever, right? I mean, if it's pollen, then it's probably just going to last until whatever flowers are releasing it aren't in bloom any more..."
A kid could dream, anyhow.

Not that the so-called cold was keeping Sholeh from being uncomfortably warm in her clothing, but still. It was the principle of the matter!

It was totally possible he'd read a book on the matter already.

She might have been planning an extreme reaction involving Zeela, Sparkle, purifying flame, and early-spring flowers.

Oh. Oh, he just out and said it, didn't he?
Well, now he was going to have to blush some more. Yeah, that sounded like a great plan.

Her mouth felt weird saying that. She was almost hyper-aware of the way her lips formed the words--and how Evan was watching them form the words.

"That's what the radio notes said it was," he replied, abruptly. "I mean, they were written by a bunch of drunk squirrels, so take them with a grain of salt, but..."

Normally, Sholeh did not condone violence against anything, including plants. BUT THESE ONES HAD IT COMING.

He'd done a lot of squirming since Monday. And now there were dirty magazines under his bed and what had he been thinking?
