Justin and I weren't exactly the best of friends. I had planned on killing him earlier this evening. He had let my Brandy die on the cruiseliner coming back to England from the States, and that was unacceptable, and not only because I still harbored feelings for Adria after twenty years, but because it went against the demon code. Not lifting a

I broke a fourth neck and saw that Rory had done the same, and we had taken out the back line of this demon march forward. It was going to be more difficult, now, though. The demons weren’t organized like the back row had been and any demon that we attacked, would likely alert another demon that they were being slaughtered by Rory and I.
I didn’t care, though. Eventually, we were going to have to throw down for real and not kill with the cheap shot from behind offensive, and I welcomed the fight. Rory and I, working together, had killed the Sofilar’s, along with my grandsire, Fangdan and I wasn’t about to be put down when fighting toe to toe with him.
As I grabbed another demon, yanked him toward me and as Rory did the same, there was a brilliant light from up ahead, near the gunfire, but exactly how close to it, was hard to tell., and what it did was make the entire procession stop. Demons looked at us, as we both broke the necks of our fifth victims, each. Things were about to get interesting.

The light seemed to stop the demons because they were scared of it, but that wasn’t the case for me. For me, it had something to do with why Justin and I were saved, and while we were now facing a real fight without the advantage of breaking necks from behind, and while I had to prepare for that, it occurred to me that I was somehow connected to that light. It was a light from the realm of those who wanted peace on Earth. If it was God, or something or somebody else, it was connected to the reason that we now had souls.
I looked at Justin, who seemed not as intent on the light. Maybe he didn’t sense what I sensed? Maybe he was too young and naïve to pull focus on such a connection, or maybe, he was just getting ready for the fight that lay ahead of us? Whatever the reason, he didn’t seem to care about the light. Not like I did.
But, I didn’t have time to care about anything right now but self-preservation and probably fifty demons had turned to face us, snarling, growling, making whatever noise was their scary noise. The rest of the pack continued forward, but probably fifty stopped for us.
“I’d say a retreat and get weapons plan should now be on the table, rookie. What do you think?"
They came towards us, and quickly, Justin and I shared a gaze.

Rory and I looked at each other. I was thinking that we should just fight them, hand to hand. I had never before lost a fight and was thinking that Rory hadn’t racked up a very high number in the loss column in his three-hundred plus years on Earth, either, but after looking at him and then back at the pack of demons looking to break us like twigs and their sheer size, we took off down the street, and as we looked back, it was easy to see that they were following. But, they didn’t have our advantage of speed, or at least that’s what I was thinking.
“Running is a good plan, how about leaping to a rooftop as a better one?”
We looked at each other and came by a warehouse. The demons closed in and started wrapping their arms, like they were going to grab us, when Rory and I, in unison, jumped into and through the window of an old warehouse, near the top floor of it, just below the roofline. As it turned out, the warehouse wasn’t closed. It was some kind of processing plant. Looking around with haste, not because those other demons could get in here the way that we did, or with such speed, but because we needed to get back into the battle, we both looked for weapons, and made our way to some room and saw a machine that cut things, but which wouldn’t exactly help us.
That’s when we saw the saws. They were big and had sharp teeth. There were six of them, but we only needed two. We shared another look and each grabbed the sharpest ones that we could find.

“These things are cumbersome, my young friend. They are meant to be used for bloody pulling back and forth. Slicing necks off with them isn’t going to be easy.”
He looked at me, called me a pussy and then said that they would be just fine for use if used by somebody strong enough. He started towards and leapt out of the window, and I followed, not about to be showed up by such a young vampire who had let my beloved Brandy die on that ship, or at the very least, had been too weak to save her.
The demons chasing us had forgot about us and had rejoined the pack heading north, up the street. I didn’t know what they were after and in all of my years in leading a powerful pack of demons both vampire, and some other demons, I had never seen an exodus towards something like this. Something must have massively bloody pissed them off, or they were being withheld as a unit, by magicks, which was something that Fangdan liked to fiddle with, so I knew that it was a possibility.
We charged back into the fray, this time slicing with saws and Justin was right. These saws were so big and strong and with such sharp teeth, that with a sidewards swipe, they would decapitate virtually anything, when swung with enough force. The demons that hadn’t already died turned to face us again and this time, fangs donned, neither one of us would be running. I bloody dared any of them to try to get the saws away from us.
