Since this was the first weekend (well my weekend) of really nice weather, I decided to start working on the yard. I had to pull out pretty much everything in the front flower bed. Our huge rosemary bush bit the big one this winter....just couldn't take all the snow and cold (not that I blame it). So I had to pull that out and a bunch of weeds which never seem to dye due to the weather. I actually tore down the retaining wall we had built and rebuilt it. It always had a sort of "I'm gonna fall over as soon as you're not looking" look to it. Now it looks nice and neat. Pretty much everything is gone out of the bed except our hearty lavender plans. One has been moved from the back to the front of the bed so they can both be seen from the front of the house.
We have decided to keep it simple and not put a lot in there. I went to Lowe's on Monday morning to see what they had....unfortunately not much as everyone else had similar ideas this weekend of doing yard work. I did find a couple of pretty rust/copper colored orimental grasses thatI am going to put in (probably this afternoon). I want to get a simple Hosta for the front middle, but all Lowe's had was partial to full shade hostas. Our house definately requires full sun plants. I might have to give Molbacks a look see this weekend.
I also bought a new rosemary plant and a sweet basil plant. Those are going to stay in containers on the back patio (as soon as I move them).
So lots of gardening this last weekend....my body has been sore since Sunday...starting to recover, but man oh man was I hurting.
I am going to start spraying the back yard to kill all the vegetation back there. There are some pieces of grass, but mostly it's just weeds. I have to kill that off so we can dig it up and prep for seeding. I don't even know if we will get to seeding this year. It may take most of the summer to pull everything out. I'd like to at least get some pavers in to extend the patio. We'll have to see how it goes.
