So many will know that I work graveyard shift for a hotel. Affectionally called the Audit. Anywho, I worked last night and had scheduled a 10:30 flight to Sacramento for my business trip. First business trip. So I worked last night and when my shift ended I ordered a cab to the airport. It was still a bit up in the air about how I was going to get from the airport to Napa, but we got it settled around 9am this morning.
So I had my first cab ride to the airport this morning. Kind of scary. Cabbie was nice and everything, but I'm not sure who taught him to drive. Didn't think I would make it to the hotel. I was able to doze a bit in the cab, mostly for sanity's sake. (We do need to keep in mind that I had got up around 1:30pm the day before--my usual wake up time).
Got to the airport and got bag checked and all that stuff. I has been over 3 years since I've been on an airplane or to the airport. That was for my grandfather's funeral so this trip should be way more fun. Made it through security without any problems...not that there should have been. This was the first time I did not have to go to the North Satalite at Sea-Tac airport. Very cool. I found a starbucks and ordered a drink and a muffin. My plane leaves at 10:25 and I am about two hours early. Which was cool. I eat my muffin and drink my drink. Finally get to board the plane. Thankfully it's not a full flight...hate those.
I know a lot of people are afraid of flying, but I think I am afraid of taking off. It is the only time I get nervous while on an airplane. Maybe it's just the G-forces on the body. I have no idea. Anyway, the plane takes off fine and I get to doze for awhile. Only a couple of babies and their poor little ears.
It was probably about 11am when my leg problem kicked in so it wasn't too bad. I have horrible restless leg syndrome when I fly. I feel like I want to die. The pilot pointed out Crater Lake on the right side of the plane. That was gorgous!! I pretty much sat and stared out the window for the rest of the flight (only about 30-40 minutes longer) watching the ground. I have to say that God does good work. Beautiful.
So we land and I have go make my way to baggage claim. I found that I am way too used to Sea-Tac and how big it is. Not that Sacramento Airport is a puddle jumper airport by any means, but Sea-Tac seems way bigger. The baggage claim area is very small. No problems with my bag. I only had to wait about 20 minutes for my ride to show up.
Luckily it was Todd the guy I trained to do the job back in Seattle, so I didn't have quite the awkwardness I usually would have. He was very nice, got my bag and everything. apparently Napa is quite a ways from Sacramento. It was a lovely drive...got to miss rush hour traffic.
Let me just say that I will never complain about Seattle road construction again. California highways SUCK!! Thought I would have lost my fillings a number of times. And they just look bad.
Todd asked if I was hungary and since I had only had a muffin since around 6pm the previous evening I was. I told him burgers were fine, nothing fancy since I was currently dressed in pajama pants (my prefered way to fly). He suggested In-N-Out Burger...I jumped for joy. Never had one before. We had to drive a bit to find it, but oh so worth it. I love the fact that they only have three menu items. Hamburger combo, cheeseburger combo, and (I think) a double cheeseburger combo. That's it. Very simple and the fries are sooo good. Not greasy at all...totaly not used to that in a french fry.
So I got some tasty bits in me and we drove to the new hotel so I could finally crash. It is funny that I work in Woodinville which is known as "Wine Country" in the Seattle area. Napa is definately "Wine Country". Vineyard go on forever. Okay, I have to admit that by this point I was pretty tired and my retention is very limited at this point. I will try to detail stuff out later so this is going to be very brief discription of the new hotel, Bardessono.
The place takes your breath away. I can not believe how amazing it looks...and they are not done putting it together. It opens in a few days and they are still changing light fixtures and stuff. I promise to take pictures and put them up, but I guarentee that you will be so impressed. I didn't think that there would be much difference between a $200 a night hotel room and a $700 a night hotel room. Boy was I wrong.
The entire hotel is made from found and recycled products. It is one of the greenest hotels around. I promise to have more on the hotel soon.
So Todd shows me around and introduces me to a bunch of people. The managers who are coordinating everything are super busy, but they get me settled in to my hotel room. We don't get to move into the Bardessono just yet. In a couple of days we get to pack up and move. Right now we are a mile or so down the street at another hotel. Very nice. So I get in to my room around 4pm. I make a couple of calls and finally get a shower and some sleep. Not my worst stint for staying up, but usually I don't change states in the middle. Luckily, I got to take this as a night off to get settled and catch up on some sleep. Yay sleep!
