The Prestige

Just watched a movie called The Prestige. Its about magicians in london around the turn of the century. Features a sweet performance of Nikola Tesla by David Bowie.

A few thoughts I had about the plot of the movie:

1. The two pivotal moments are when Angier's wife drowns at the beginning, and when Angier's clone drowns at the end. In both these instances, there is someone next to the glass tank trying to break the class to free the person who is drowning. Both of them have axes. The magic trick with the water tank involves a padlock. Why don't they just hit the padlock and open the tank like it is meant to, rather than spending 30 seconds trying to bust the 2 inch thick glass open?

2. The device that Tesla builds for Angier that creates duplicates and teleports people. After Fallon/Borden is executed, why doesn't the other one create a duplicate of themself? They were sharing a life anyway, and they're suppose to be identical twins. Instead they destroy the machine in a fire. Great plan surviving twin.

3. The whole reason Borden is under the stage looking at the water tank (and thus leading him to getting hung) is because he wants to know how Angier is doing the trick. Whereas Borden is the person who directed Angier to go find Tesla and build him a machine for teleporting people. You think he could have been like 'oh shit, maybe Tesla actually did build that machine, seeing as they were gone for like a year in America.'

Other thoughts have come and gone, I might add to them later.
