Regarding the show Ghost Hunters (and TAPS in general):

I'm bored at work like usual, so I figured I'd follow up on our conversation about Ghost Hunters, and try to consolidate a lot of the stuff that I've come across that kills most or all the credibility TAPS has ( Read more... )

“As far as actual evidence for the incredibly unscientific way they go about their investigations, this link is a good overall summary of their techniques and includes many links to other debunking pages, as well as video footage of certain "evidence" used in the show, and how it could've been faked. None of the explanations presented on that page or in its links prove conclusively that Ghost Hunters footage has been doctored or tampered with, it just shows how extremely easy it is to recreate with perfect accuracy the "evidence" that the Ghost Hunters use as proof positive of paranormal activity during their reveals at the end of the episode.”

1. Once again, there’s never been a claim of proof positive evidence.
2. Proving that something can be faked is not the same as proving it WAS faked. Damn near anything CAN be faked.

“But, this link is conclusive proof that at least one episode features tampered/doctored footage. This is corroborated by the fact that all re-runs of that episode since the time that the show's creators were notified of this issue have had that footage removed.”

It also says that it was never seen in the hands of TAPS during either the analysis or the reveal. In other words, they never presented it as evidence, they never noted it at all. This makes me doubt that THEY were behind it. If they were, I’d think they would have DONE something with it. I WILL say that on more than one occasion, I thought someone was messing with them. There have been multiple occurrences where they have chased unexplained sounds, and I was convinced that there was someone there faking it. On one particular occasion, in fact, they all but CAUGHT someone doing it. There was a case where supposedly there was a bed that makes itself, and the put a camera in there. Sure enough, at one point, the sheets stop moving. But during the analysis, they caught an inconsistency with the placement of the sheets, and at the same time there was a faint clicking sound, which they figured was the camera being re-started, making it clear that someone had come in, paused the camera, got into position, restarted it, and moved the sheets.

“Hopefully, these links will help you understand that while Ghost Hunters may be an interesting show, it really isn't all that factual, in any form, and it definitely should not be taken as a real paranormal investigation.”

Dude, it IS a real paranormal investigation. Whether they prove definitively or not if there are ghosts doesn’t change the fact that if someone investigates claims of the paranormal, then, by definition, IT IS A PARANOMRAL INVESTIGATION.

1. Yes there has.
2. I know, that's why I made sure to point out that I was not claiming that, and neither was anything in that link.

"It also says that it was never seen in the hands of TAPS during either the analysis or the reveal. In other words, they never presented it as evidence, they never noted it at all. Yeah, that was the Manson Murder House episode, if I remember correctly. I never said that they don't debunk some tamperings. They do what gets ratings. But going back to the footage, I never said that footage was used in the reveal, or as evidence. But, it was never pointed to as tampering or doctored footage until and outside source pointed it out. So either TAPS did it, or the show's editors did it. If TAPS didn't do it, TAPS should've been able to find it before the episode went out and correct it. The fact that they didn't speaks to two things: they don't have enough control over their own show, and they don't have the AV expertise necessary to spot a fake.

"Dude, it IS a real paranormal investigation. Whether they prove definitively or not if there are ghosts doesn’t change the fact that if someone investigates claims of the paranormal, then, by definition, IT IS A PARANOMRAL INVESTIGATION."

No, a real paranormal investigation implies correct scientific method. I can walk into your living room, bust out an Ohmmeter, wave it in the air a little, and declare "nope, there ain't no spirits here", but that doesn't make it a real paranormal investigation. :P
