I pose a question...

Let's say two people get together, accidents happen, and a the woman becomes pregnant. Now, once this child is born both parents are legally responsible. If they are unable to share the responsibility the more able bodied parent (ideally, but its usually the woman) gets custody but the other parent is still financially responsible ( Read more... )

In many cases the father may be unknown, or the mother a victim of rape.
If we forced the abortion decision to require both a mother and a father's consent then the above sitiations would not be able to have one. So exceptions would be made for them. Then we would have Mother's that don't fit those groups beginning to lie, so they can get one, and we are right back at square one anyways.

I see no complication there. IN the event both parents are known each would get 50% of the say. In the event the mother does not know the father then she gets complete say.

That's not an exception to the rule because the rule would be in place as a protection measure for the fathers. If the father is a rapist, or completely unknown then there is no one to protecty and so no rule.

I was saying that Woman could say the father was a rapist or is unknown, so they could have their abortion unchallenged. If they want an abortion, it would still be easy and the decision would still solely be up to the woman.

I suppose but it seems a weak argument to say "People would abuse the system so we should deny an entire gender this specific right"

I'm saying it's impossible to put that system into place.

It's like putting a door on an open road with plenty of room to walk around, and hanging a sign that says please step through the door. Most people wouldn't bother opening it, expecially if they are terrified of doors and doorways.

Im not asking if the system would work because I completely agree with you. It would be next to impossible to impliment. I'm simply asking if it could be implimented do you think it should be? Do you think ideally a man should have equal say?
