Jon Huertas
SAG Candidate Statement

When I received my SAG Card 16 years ago, it was one of the proudest moments of my life. Unfortunately I wasn’t so proud during the 2008-2009 contract negotiations. The battling with AFTRA and division within SAG was frustrating and quite embarrassing to say the least. I never want to feel that loss of pride again…Nor should you. We’re all professional actors and two separate unions for one profession simply makes no sense. With your support, I’ll work to unite SAG & AFTRA, forming one performers’ union to represent us all with strength, integrity and dignity for the future. www.UniteforStrength.com

Bio

Jon Huertas currently stars in ABC’s Castle as ‘Detective Javier Esposito,’ the skeptical yet humorous investigator whose constant bantering with his colleagues is a plot highlight for fans. He’s also well known as the outspoken and gritty ‘Sgt. Antonio “Poke” Espera’ in HBO’s highly acclaimed miniseries Generation Kill. Huertas has been engaging audiences in both television and feature films for more than a decade. He will next be heard voicing ‘Alberto’ in this year’s feature film sequel, Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2, as well as recently completing voice-work in the popular HALO video game franchise for Microsoft’s upcoming HALO Reach title on Xbox 360.

Huertas made his mark on feature films with roles in such projects as Picking Up the Pieces with Woody Allen & Sharon Stone, Why Do Fools Fall in Love alongside Halle Berry & Larenz Tate and the Sundance Award-winning indie Right at Your Door. He then went on to co-produce and star in The Insatiable opposite Sean Patrick Flanery and Michael Biehn. Other notable feature film credits include: The Objective, Believers, Bug and Executive Decision to name a few. Additionally, Huertas is no stranger to the small screen starring and guest starring roles on a number of hit television series such as: Dark Blue, NCIS, CSI, Prison Break, Cold Case, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Moesha, and Without a Trace.

Huertas is a U.S. Air Force Special Ops Military veteran who served for eight years, during three major conflicts, before becoming an actor. He currently sits on the board of Puppies Behind Bars (www.PuppiesBehindBars.com), “a non-profit organization dedicated to training prison inmates to raise puppies to be service dogs for the disabled, including wounded veterans, and explosive detection canines for law enforcement.” Huertas is a New York native with a BFA in Musical Theatre from TCU.

Love the headshot over at the UFS website. But...a BFA in Musical Theatre?!
