I bought FIASCO: The American Military Adventure in Iraq some times ago. Actually when I bought it I was looking for Generation Kill and One Bullet Away but I couldn't find them in the bookshop. (sometimes I just hate my city)
When I first bought it I just read the first pages where you can find an Index with terms like AO, MRE, SAW etc. There's also an index with the name of some "characters". I didn't really read it because seriously I was already reading three books at that time.
I always love to have a book in my bag and today as I was going in train to Orleans I decide to take FIASCO with me. I re-read the first pages and I decide to look at the names and there was "Maj. Gen. James Mattis, commander, 1st Marine Division". I think that I might have frighten the people because seriously I couldn't hold back my squee. Now I'm glad I didn't went to the index at the end of the book because he is not the only one named and I'm certain that if I had look at it in the train I would have squee, stand up and made an ode to Generation Kill. (I so need an icon that say that G.Kill stole my brain)
Nathaniel Fick is being quoted page 136. Here the paragraph:
"During this period, the US military was perceptibly losing its recent gains; it gave the sense that it really didn't know what to do next ans was waiting to pass the mission to someone else. "A finite supply of goodwill toward the Americans evaporated with the passing of each anarchic day," Lt Nathaniel Fick, an elite force recon Marine officer, wrote of being in Baghdad during this time."
ETA: There's also a pic of Maj.Gen. Mattis, I'll try to scan it when I can.
