He's not wearing his jacket, and long sleeves of his shirt are rolled up to his elbows. He looks a little dirty - there's a mark on his forehead where he's obviously wiped his face at some ( Read more... )

Not exactly my usual line of work, but I guess I can deal with getting my hands dirty. *The faintly amused smile shows that he doesn't really mind.*

[His eyebrow arches just a little. New people, he's not so quick to trust. The guy seems genuine enough though, perhaps he can give him some grunt work?]

There's no hierarchy here to contest. You're up for the challenge?

I'm always up for a challenge. The exercise won't hurt, either.

Not yet, but the technology doesn't seem that hard to figure out.

*He laughs and offers another smile.* I should be there fairly soon.

*He shows up about an hour later, tucking a gold locket under his shirt.* I'm not too late, am I?

He heard David before he saw him, setting his things down and tossing him a loose salute.

"Ah, no. No you're not. What do you think?"

He gestures to the building. It's something like a test.

He waved back, a short motion that vaguely resembled an informal salute, before turning his attention to the building. "Not too bad...better than most of the buildings I've seen, at least. It must have taken a lot of effort."

Well, that's positive. Both the half-hearted salute and the comments.

"Well, most of the buildings around here look as if they've been bombed or something... It doesn't take much to make a difference."

He laughs a little, looking over at David. "You could say that."

He let his attention shift from the building to Roy, subtly studying the other man's demeanor. So far, things seemed to be going well, and he was finding he actually rather liked Roy's attitude. "Care to show me what needs to be done on the inside?"

Roy was a manipulator himself, he knew how to read people - he might have felt a little under the glass, and if he did he only put it down to David's uncertainty over anything else.

"Mn, I'm sure I can."

He spoke cheerfully, and gestured forward through the doors.

"There's always painting. I think a few of the rooms need the walls replastering, they're terrible."

David took the invitation, willingly turning his back on Roy to give the impression that he had no reason to watch his new acquaintance, and walked inside. "The plastering sounds more urgent."

He stared after David, clearing his throat as he followed.

"Upstairs, second door on the right then."

He stopped once he was in and could look around the first room, then turned and offered his hand to Roy. "Alright. Is there anything else I should know before I start?"

He sighed at the state of the room, wandering over the one of the walls and smoothing his hand over it. Glad when nothing more came off the walls.

"I don't think so. Don't feel you have to stay until it's done. No one has an obligation here."
