It was not Lando Calrissian's intent to become a partner in a new venture. He arrived at the Sluiss Van Shipyards with only the goal of using it as a base to investigate conditions and facilities at the purported Wookiee slave camp in the sector. But two things happened. Or rather, one thing did and one thing didn't.

The thing that didn't was that Lando's efforts to find any proof of Alliance Intelligence's reports kept failing. Every source indicated that the Imperials were no longer in the Sluiss sector, that there was no traffic of any kind within a parsec of the presumed location, that the camp didn't exist. Lando grew ever more skeptical, but he also knew that Colonel Bast and his men were among the best in the Alliance. Still, he felt both frustation and boredom grow. He would have to leave soon.

The thing that happened was running into Zigg Varien. Back in the brief time Lando sold spacecraft, Varien had been a satsified customer. And while Lando lost interest in the business in a matter of months, Varien's ship had done well by its owner. Thus when Varien and Lando ran into each other, the former told the latter about his new business. Varien was going to ship foodstuffs to worlds that were either in need of such items after the war, or could pay good money for items not generally available onworld. All Varien needed was someone who knew ships, and shipping (smuggling), and who could help him with a small investment.

Truth was, Lando rarely took a partner. And even more rarely took a role as a minority partner. But from the day he was introduced to ice cream and oranges at Milliways, the idea of importing or reinventing Erather food had latched onto his brain and wallet. It took little to convince Varien of the need to buy refrigerated ships. All Lando needed was to get back to the Bar and figure out the secrets of ice cream.

Beyond which, Varien planned to use the Shipyards as a base. Lando now had a reason to stay at the yards and continue his research. Otherwise, it would have seemed strange for former General Lando Calrissian to be a rather distant shipyard indefinitely. Things had come together well. As they always did for the Commander of Staves.

There was just one drawback. While setting up the firm, Lando did a lot of travelling on ships thet weren't his own. Or travelling with people he didn't wish to see follow him to Milliways. And so, for a month, the door from the Lady Luck into the Bar stayed unused. Until at last, back home on his ship and through with the trips to buy ships with a partner he really dind't like that mucy, Lando was able to find a moment to get back to his friends and food at Milliways.
