So, I got this email from my Nan and Pop out in Colorado. Knowing that Colorado is one of the swing states I decided to write back. After the republican propaganda is my response to them.
Think you know who this man is?
This possible President of the United States ?? Read Below and ask yourselves, is this REALLY someone we can see as the President of our great nation!!!!
Below are a few lines from Obama's books; In his words!
From Dreams of My Father: 'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.'
From Dreams of My Father : 'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa , that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself , the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.'
And FINALLY the Most Damming one of ALL of them!!!
From Audacity of Hope: 'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.'
* If you have never forwarded an e-mail, now is the time to Do so!!!! We CANNOT have someone with this type of mentality running our GREAT nation!! I don't care whether you a Democrat or a Conservative. We CANNOT turn ourselves over to this type of character in a President. PLEASE help spread the word!

Nan & Pop,
Thank you for this message, it was very inspiring. It prompted me to explore my feelings on the matter in great detail. Here is what I thought about it.
The messages portrayed above only make me believe that Senator Barack Obama is the right candidate for president. His candor and insightfulness in respect to himself and his own decisions is ideal. He admits to his own racial stereotypes, which is more than anyone else is willing to do! Absolutely everyone is racist. Everyone. Anyone who claims to not be harboring racial stereotypes (or any stereotypes) is lying or deluding themselves. Through the quotes from Senator Obama's books, he shows that he can analyze his decisions so thoroughly that he delves into his unconscious perceptions in order to make the best decision possible. What better could you ask for than a person who knows what influences his decisions, whether they be personal or global! *We should actually try to understand John McCain more. Is he pushing for more troops in the Middle East because it's right for America, or because of his feelings of personal loss and hardships from the Vietnam Conflict?* This is an attribute that is needed in our leaders: the understanding, with deeper meaning, of where their decisions come from.
As for the Muslim comment, I have to sigh. Whoever compiled this list of quotes is playing on the uneducated view that Muslims are the problem. Muslims are NOT the problem. Muslims have nothing to do with the terrorist attacks across the world. That's like saying Christians/Catholics are responsible for the Oklahoma city bombing. There are extremists in all factions of religion, class, political position etc. You cannot attack a group for the actions and beliefs of an individual (or small group of individuals). What I believe Senator Obama is trying to convey with this quote, is that he supports the basic rights of all Americans, namely their right to freedom from religious persecution from the masses.
Senator Obama is looking to re-establish America in the eyes of the rest of the world. We are no longer a superpower that other countries aspire to emulate. In their eyes we are the land of the greedy and self-righteous, who don't know how to take care of ourselves. We have our hands in too many pots and are overlooking the needs of our own people. In addition to taking care of us at home, Senator Obama is looking to improve our relations with other countries. He's looking at their successes and seeing how we can apply them to America, from an American standpoint. How many countries are years ahead of us in clean energy? Health insurance is free to citizens of other countries, yet we pay a large chunk of our paychecks for the same treatment, or we simply go without and pray.
I look forward to the new ideas that will invigorate our country, and the peaceful manner in which Senator Obama wishes to pursue them. It's depressing that people cannot see beyond the race issue. Why can't we explore our decision making process like Senator Obama, to see what role racial stereotypes play in our own minds. Perhaps then we will see that Barack Obama is the right choice for President of the United States in 2008.
I hope that after reading this you will take the time to honestly explore your feelings, and analyze why it is you think/feel that way. It could be racial stereotypes, or a simple unspoken message from your childhood. Whatever the reasons, take them into consideration as they may influence your decisions.
Monica
