so I visited the Seattle Film Institute today. drove past it while looking for it like three times, its not incredibly prominent, meaning that the whole thing is pretty much a converted house. one big room for main classes, and a back house type thing for the administration ofice, and editing and storage rooms.
so anyway, i spoke with the director, and he seemed like a nice guy, and he told me about what the full 10 month program consisted of. and it sounded interesting enough. basically it goes through the key elements, equipment, and roles of filmaking. directing, lighting, sound, cinematography, camera operation, editing, and screenwriting are done and rotated by everyone throughout the course, making short film projects with an upgrade of camera and crew each time. the cool thing about the camera work there is that a lot of it is work with actual film cameras, instead of just digital video which is more modern. there is work with video, but the first camera you work with is a super 8, then up to 16mm, then digital video, then a more advanced 16mm. so i think that would be good experience. editing is digital, however i was told there was an option to work some with traditional film editing, which i think is very good.
it did seem like the work can get pretty overwhelming with a lot of things happening at once. which im not sure about. i wouldnt think things would be slack, but i really dont want ot get to the point where it gets to be so much i hate doing it. i dont know, i guess id have to see.
so yea im thinking i should probably try and get in for the september starting date. i really should just try it, because if i wait, im going to be waiting and putting it off forever. if i start now, i can get going and learn this shit, and then get it over with sooner. by "get it over with", i mean get myself going beyond not knowing anything and schooling. when im at the the end of the course, i will have knowledge and experience, to do actual work with filmmaking, and even start on my own shit, so i can make something great, make cool movies, be happy, get outta here, and move on with my life.
