it's been 10 years....

I was in my clinic today, and as I was about to call my patient to my room, a voice called out...

"Gene?!"

Ok, here's the thing. In my clinic, they just call me Doctora, or Dr. Cruz, but never Gene. So it felt kinda out of place for someone to call out to me using my nickname. I turned around, and I saw Faith, my batchmate from HS (which was like, what, 10 years ago?!).

I have often wondered why I haven't seen any of my classmates from HS since I started working for an HMO, where I've been seeing patients from a lot of different companies. Naturally, I assumed my classmates would be working in some of the companies that my HMO handled. But in the 5+ months that I've worked there, this was the first time I saw a batchmate-slash-patient in my clinic. It felt kinda surreal that an old friend and classmate from back when we were still in our white blouses and checkered skirts was now calling me "Doctora"...

We chatted a bit but my other patients were waiting so we had to cut it short. Besides, she was still due for a blood extraction, which she was dreading.

Seeing her again made me miss the HS days though. Don't get me wrong; I'm still close to my HS friends and we see each other often enough to be updated with whatever's going on with each other's lives. But we came from a big HS batch, aroung 300+.

I wonder...

Where the hell are they now? Are they married? With kids? Self-made millionaires? Separated? Immigrated? Famous? or Infamous?....

Isn't there supposed to be a reunion in the works? After all, it's been 10 years since we graduated....

Sino kya may complete video ng cheering performances namin? I would love to see them again...

and, more importantly, I would love to see old friends again.

To my batchmates from HS (you know who you guys are), Happy 10th year anniversary!

May the dreams we fostered in the years we spent in school be a reality, soon.
