Personal Electronics Naming Conventions

Nov 06, 2009 00:38

One of the things that ubiquitous networking technology has brought us is the need to name our electronic devices. For many people, this is a burden best resolved with a serial number or inventory tag. And for some, it is merely a place to yet again place their own name or initials on a device. For a few, however, it is an opportunity to let their individuality and personality shine.

For myself, I've always drifted between names with a personal meaning and names that others might recognize. Though I have neither the time nor the inclination to go through an entire inventory of past personal electronics, I thought I might share a few to give you an idea of what I mean:

1995: Home-built 486sx Desktop: 'HAL'

1999: Handera TRGPro Handheld: 'Ziggy'

1999: Home-built Celeron 300a Desktop: 'Skynet'

2004: Tapwave Zodiac Handheld: 'Nomad'

2004: Home-built Athlon64 Desktop: 'Tenebrae'

2009: Sager NP2096 Notebook: SHODAN

------------

So what about you? What sort of naming conventions do you use when naming your electronic devices?
