Transmen

Apr 10, 2007 16:33

I know this is really going to sound uninformed but I guess asking is better than not. Can someone explain to me what the transmen are all about? I'm not really sure and confused with this identification....

It is a term for transsexual men.

since you only asked about transmen.. does that mean you know what transwomen are? if so, they are the opposite. :B

"opposite" really seems to imply binary gender, and that all transmen and transwomen fit into certain gender roles...

Actually, no. Transmen (and transwomen, for that matter) are transsexuals. It's not necessarily about gender or gender roles, it's about the incorrect anatomy they were born with. Or at least it's more about that than anything else.

I have a different definition of transman. I identify as a transman, not as a man, and not as a transsexual. I'm transgender and masculine. Some people use transman to define their sex (vs male or female). Because their body is not male or female if they have had any medical intervention. it's a trans body.

So here is the answer I'm looking for from the transman himself. I've heard ftm's identify this way and have found it confusing. I KNOW what a transsexual woman or man is, of course! Another thing I have thought is that
transmen are attracted to other transmen? Is this true or what? That is what I mean by what are transmen about? Do transmen belong to a subculture of sorts? These are some of the ideas that confuse me. It's hard to formulate a question regarding something that is confusing...

I am completely boggled as to where the hell you're getting these ideas. o_O I'm a trans guy, and I am attracted to women 99.9% of the time. If there's a subculture, I've not noticed it.

Good for you! But there are plenty of trans guys who are queer and attracted to men....
