I got an A on my test! None wrong on the multiple choice. This coming from my first exam with a D. I think I can pull it up to a B if I have a good group project

Pat, legally I don't have the right to marry another man either. Nor does any man in this state reguardless of sexuality. And while I don't give two shits about my ability to marry a man, I do understand your desire to. But the fact is, at this moment you and I have equal rights. As for adopting a child, I'm really not clear on any rights or regulations- is it like the don't ask don't tell policy or are both of us up shit creek because we're single males?
My arguement (I intentionally stated it in a course manor 'cause I like to be an asshole and get a rise out of everyone) is that a much greater step for gays- and all the minorities for that manor- would be acceptance. Passing a law to better suit you doesn't necessarily mean I like you or approve of your existance or accept you as a moral human being. It means I'm accomidating my constituents. In fact, it's a blatant statement that you are different than me in an extreme way (hense the ADA reference).
You already have every right that I have. What you want is acceptance that your way of living and loving is fundamentally no different than mine.
Unless we're talking butt loving. I just aint into that shit. :op
I guess the metaphor that works for me here is to tell a pre civil rights black man that he had all the same rights as a white man, if he would just stop being black. Just like the black man, who was legally less of a human than the white man, a gay person in our country is legally less of a human than straight people. A law that recognizes gay people as equal to straight people is acceptance, to a certain extent. Ask the black man if he would rather have his protection under the law or acceptance. I'm not sure what his response would be, but give me protection and equality under the law. You want to say that we are the same. In some ways yes, but legally no.
