9
premiering on 09.09.09 was Tim Burton's newest film, 9. in short, this film was perfect, displaying a sociopolitical point of view, stunning visuals, an engaging story and characters that bring tears to the eyes. there is no doubt in my mind that this film rivals wall-e and coraline as some of the greatest animated films i have seen in the recent past.
pictured is my favorite character, "5", and yes, because i see the world in slash goggles, i do have a particular character in mind that he is quite attached too, and yes it's those two characters that threatened to bring tears to my eyes.
my only disappointments (so perfect wouldn't quite be the word to use) are the ending, and the length of the film (only 80+ minutes). had it been given an additional 30 minutes, the film, i feel, would have been perfect. as it stands, the film resorts to a "cheesy" cop-out sort of ending that leaves me feeling deflated after 80 minutes of perfection.
did my eyes still water at the end? yes.
do i recommend this movie? a thousand times yes. yes.
this is a movie i will both, watch again in theaters and buy on dvd.
and yes, i would pay out the nose for all 9 characters as dolls (okay, maybe just 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 7, and 9), they were characters that i felt particular attachments too. i love them all.
