Carson had been back on earth for sometime now. He really didn’t like it at all. It just wasn’t the same as being on Atlantis.

A hole in the earth was no substitute for a city of fabled legend. He missed the sound of the ocean around them and being able to drink a cup of coffee looking out across the water as the sun set. He missed the people, his team. All the friends that he had made. God help him he even missed Rodney. He would give anything to hear his voice booming down the corridors right now.

But no. That wasn’t to be. Rodney was tucked away in area 51 giving them a hard time. Teyla had stayed behind with her people and Ronon had stayed with her. John was busy trying to get a gate team together but that wasn’t going to well either. Radek had gone back to the Czech republic to take up a teaching job and he had lost track of what had happened to his medical team. A few had been able to join Dr Lam’s team here on the base and the rest had been found positions elsewhere.

And that was another thing, he had had to get used to the fact that he was no longer CMO. Not that he had any problems with Dr Lam. She was a very good physician and she was good to work with. It was strange not being the one giving orders or being the one people came to when there was an emergency.  And it was strange not to have an office there even though he had been given space to carry on his research. The IOA had decided that he should continue his research in to a way of defeating the wraith. The IOA reasoned that if things went well with the ancients they could use it as a bargaining chip to get them access to Atlantis. As Carson had seen first hand what arrogance the ancients had in the way that they had treated them he didn’t think that would be happening any time soon.

There was however a silver lining to what had become a very major cloud. That was Dr Daniel Jackson. Carson had been intrigued by this man since he had met him at the Antarctic base. He was a man of learning and everything was met by his wonderful enthusiasm. After a day of having to operate that damned chair and then having to hear Rodney moaning about having frostbite and how this was no way to treat a genius, it was refreshing to sit and listen to Daniel talk about Atlantis and its history. And when Daniel discovered the way to Atlantis, he was like a kid in a candy store. His eyes shone bright and his smile and enthusiasm were infectious. It made all the hours that he spent in the chair worthwhile.

When Carson had returned with the others and had been assigned to the SGC, and he had been staying in the mountain for lack of anywhere else to go, Daniel had been the one that had come over and asked if he would like to come and stay with him. Carson had been grateful for this. Not only did it save him from having to go and look for somewhere himself, it also meant that he would have some company.

Daniel appreciated the company too. After yet another fruitless trip to try to find the Sangreal it was nice to have someone there to talk to. As time went on Daniel found himself getting closer to Carson. He began to see how handsome he was. He began to notice how blue his eyes were and how much he liked it when Carson spoke to him.

Then after one hard mission, that had again turned up nothing, Daniel came back to his apartment. He was beginning to doubt that they would ever find the Sangreal and wondering how they would stand up to the Ori. Sitting down on his sofa he lay his head back and closed his eyes. Suddenly he felt a dip in the sofa and a hand resting gently on his thigh. Opening his eyes, he turned to see Carson sitting beside him.

“Are you OK lad?” Carson asked, a concerned look on his face.

Without saying a word Daniel reached up,  giving him a gentle kiss on his lips. “ I am now.”

From that moment Daniel not only shared his home with Carson, he also shared his heart and eventually his bed. ......

SCGSCGSCGSCG

Carson was working in the infirmary as Jack O’Neill was getting his pre-mission check.

“For crying out loud. I’m only going to talk.” Jack said as the Dr looked him over.

Carson wandered over and said, “Now, now lad. We all have to go through it.”

Jack looked up at him and scowled. “ Yeah well. This better be worth it!!!”

The Dr looked at him and said, “All done General.”

Jack hopped off the bed and walked out, grumbling as he did so. Carson looked at the Dr and they both smiled.

Suddenly there was a noise and Carson looked up to see a female soldier being supported by two of her colleagues.  He recognized her as Lt Bryony Henderson. She seemed to be limping and unable to support much weight on her left foot. Grabbing something to make notes, he went over to them.

As the two men put her on the bed Carson said, “Alright now, what happened?”

A young man, by the name of Peterson, replied, “We ran in to some trouble. SG-17 had been part of a rescue mission and we were coming in hot. Lieutenant Henderson turned round to lay down covering fire and tripped. We managed to get her back but she has managed to do something to her ankle.”

Carson took off her boot and had a look at the ankle. He moved it gently and watched as the Lieutenant winced and breathed in hard.

“Right. It’s an x-ray for you lass.” Carson said, motioning to one of the nurses.

Bryony watched as he went over and talked to them.  They came over and helped her in to a wheelchair. As Carson watched her being wheeled away Major Anderson, Henderson's team leader, came over to him.

“That doesn’t look good does it.” The Major said with a worried look on her face. “ Looks like I am going to have to bring in a replacement while she gets better.”

Carson looked at her and nodded, “ Do you have anyone in mind?”

The Major looked thoughtful. “ Yeah there is someone. A young lady by the name of Banks. She doesn’t have the experience off world but she will have to do. With the kind of hell that’s been breaking loose we need to be out there.”

Carson nodded and said, “ Aye, I know what you mean.”

Anderson said, “ Look, I have to go now. Keep me informed about Henderson will you.”

“ Of course.” Carson called out as he watched her go.

It’s wasn’t long before the Lieutenant was back. Carson looked at her x-rays. It wasn’t a break but it still looked like it was a bad sprain. She needed to be off her feet for a while and this meant that there would be no gate travel.

Turing to her he said, ‘You’ve been lucky. It’s not broken.”

She looked at him and said, “Great. So this means that you can just strap me up and let me go right?”

Carson looked at her. “ Pardon?”

“Well if there is no break you can just strap up my ankle and I can get going.” Bryony looked at him and smiled.

Carson replied, “ I don’t think so lass. You have a bad sprain and will need to be off your feet for a few weeks at least. It needs rest to heal and that will not include going through the gate. I’m sorry.”

She looked at him in disbelief. “ You have to be kidding right. There is no way that I can be off the team for that long! Do you have any idea what’s going on out there?”

Admittedly Carson didn’t really know the situation with the Ori, but that wasn’t the point. He was a doctor. No matter what the situation, this woman was not duty fit. He knew and he had a pretty good idea that she knew it to and there was nothing either of them could do about it.

“I’m sorry lass. I can’t do that. If I send you out with an ankle like that it could do more harm than good. It could aggravate the injury and may end up leaving you with a limp. Or even worse you could get yourself or other team members hurt or killed.”

Bryony looked at him. “ I can’t believe you’re saying that. Do you know how long it took to get the team together?”

Carson sat making changes to her notes, “That’s alright. Major Anderson has got a replacement for you. That reminds me, I should tell her how you are getting on.”

This seemed to send Bryony over the edge and she spat back at him, “That’s just great. After all the hard work that I put in to get on to the team, after one small problem with my ankle you do this to me. You don’t care do you? You just don’t give a damn”

Carson looked at her. “ It’s the exact opposite. I do give a damn and that’s why I am declaring you unfit for duty. I’m sorry. Now let’s get you strapped up.”

He made a move towards her and Bryony snarled, “ Get away from me.”

At this point Carson felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned around to see Dr Lam standing beside him. She smiled at him and quietly asked him to come with her.

When they had moved away Carolyn said, “ Don’t feel bad. It was hard for them to get an all women gate team. I don’t think it would have happened at all if it hadn’t been for the Ori. I think that they feel they have a lot to prove.”

While Carson could understand this, it didn’t make him feel any better.  Carolyn could see this and continued, “ If it’s any consolation Carson, I would’ve done exactly the same thing. Don’t worry. She’ll get over it.”

Carson sighed, nodded and went on his way.

Carson spent the rest of the day worrying about what had happened. It hurt that the Lieutenant had thought that he didn’t care. The whole reason that he had become a doctor was because he cared. He couldn’t understand why she had blown up like that. Would she have thanked him if he had let her carry on and she had really damaged her ankle, ending up having to leave her post?

It was still playing on his mind when he arrived at the apartment that he shared with his lover Daniel. Throwing his jacket down on to the sofa, he walked through to the kitchen to get a whisky before he sat down at the computer to talk to Daniel.

He and Samantha had been called away to the Pentagon to let them know how the search for the Sangreal was going.  Daniel really hated these things but right now they had to be done. Carson knew that when Daniel got back he would know how to make him feel better.

That thought made Carson smile as he turned on  the computer. As he waited for it to boot up he reached out and picked up a piece of black stone. It was three inches long, round and highly polished with a cream line around the middle of it. Carson had brought it back from Atlantis with him although he was never sure why.

Right on time Carson received his call from Daniel. It was so good to see him again even if it was through the lens of his computer camera.

Taking a swig from his glass, Carson asked, “ How’s your day gone luv?”

Daniel raised his eyebrows as he said, “ You know. Lots of talking. Lots of listening to Sam explaining all the technical stuff. Lots of questions that we couldn’t answer. Lots of listening to people all moaning about our seeming lack of progress.”

Carson chuckled as he replied, “ So that would be the same as yesterday?”

“Yes.” Daniel said with a sigh, “ How was your day?”

Taking another mouthful of whisky Carson responded, “ On a positive note, General O’Neill and Mr Woolsey have been invited to Atlantis for talks and I am still working on my anti-Wraith research. On a negative note I had Lieutenant Henderson blow up on me because I wouldn’t let her go off-world with a badly twisted ankle.”

Daniel looked at Carson, putting a finger to his lips in thought. “ She is one of the members of the all girl gate team isn’t she?”

Carson said. “Aye, and she wasn’t at all happy with me.”

Picking up the stone, Carson proceeded to tell Daniel exactly what had happened, “ ... I don’t know why she feels she has so much to prove? They are a good team right?”

Daniel nodded, replying, “ Yes but you know what it’s like. It took such a long time for them to get an all girl team at the SGC that each of its members are not only feeling that they have to prove themselves to the rest of the teams. It seems that they feel they have to prove it to each other too.” Giving Carson one of his smiles, he continued, “ I wouldn’t worry. Dr Lam is right. She will get over it. It’s no reflection on you.”

Putting down his glass, he turned the stone over in his hands. “ I wish that I could be a woman. If I was one for a while then maybe I could understand them better.”

As Carson finished speaking the stone glowed for a second and then got a little warmer. In the silence this went unnoticed.

Daniel laughed and said, “That would be something to see.”

As the two men chatted Carson seemed to relax. Even from a distance Daniel could help ease away the worries of the day. This was one of the reasons that Carson had come to love him.

Eventually, Daniel looked at this watch. “Sorry Carson. I have to go. I have another day of this tomorrow and I really don’t want to fall asleep during the meetings.”

“ I understand love.” Carson said putting down the stone, “ I miss you.”

“I miss you too and I can’t wait to be back home with you.” Daniel’s face lit up as he spoke.

He hated having to be away from Carson like this. But it had to be done. And for reasons that he could never understand he seemed to be the one that had to do it.

‘Love you. Night love and sleep well” Carson said.

“ Love you too and I will try.” Daniel replied

With that the connection was broken. Carson went and sat on the couch and finished his drink. Putting the glass down he suddenly felt really tired and before he knew it he dropped of to sleep.

SGCSGCSGCSGC

The next morning Carson woke up and moved. He hated falling asleep on the couch like that, as it left him feeling stiff. Stretching he felt something brush against his face.

Reaching up he moved his hand to brush whatever it was away. Carson felt rather confused as he could have sworn that it was hair. Things got really strange as he stood up because he felt like his clothes didn’t fit any more.

Then Carson took a look at his watch. It was hanging of his hand but it didn’t look like his hand. The hand that he was looking at had long slender fingers and well kept nails. This hand was a woman’s hand. This was wrong, so wrong.

Stumbling from the couch he went in to the bathroom. Turning on the light, he looked in the bathroom mirror and the sight that met his eyes left him feeling very confused. Instead of seeing his reflection looking back at him, Carson was met by the sight of a pretty woman dressed in the clothes that he had fallen asleep in.

The person in the mirror had hair down to her shoulders and it was the same color that his had been. The eyes were blue but the face had high cheek bones and feminine lips. Smooth skin replaced the stubble on his chin. Slowly Carson started to unbutton his shirt, revealing the pair of breasts that lay beneath it.  As he let the shirt fall off his shoulders he looked at what was revealed. They were medium sized and didn’t seem to big for him. Carson brought his hand  up to touch them. The skin felt soft.

Then Carson brought his hand up to touch his nipple. As he brushed his palm over it, the feeling was electric. It seemed to go from his breast to a place between his legs. He did the same with the other breast and the feeling between his legs intensified. Taking his hands away, he noticed that they were hard and very pink against the whiteness of his skin.

Then Carson brought his hands to his trousers. He undid the zip and pulled them down and stepped out of them. Running his hands over the front of his boxers, he was aware that hispenis was no longer there, replaced by a strange flatness. Hesitantly he put his hand down  his boxers to discover a strange hairiness at the top of his legs. Slowly he pulled his boxers down and watched as they fell to the floor. His penis had been replaced by a v of hair that matched the color of the hair on his head. Carson was so confused. The person that stood before him in the mirror was as alien as the Wraith that had attacked them in Atlantis.

It was then that his eyes were drawn to where the hair disappeared between his legs. He sat down on the side of the bath and opened his legs. Bringing his hand down, he watched as it disappeared in between them. He was met with warm folds of skin, As he ran his fingers up and down it, he began to feel a warmth that he had never known before. It was then that he found the nub of flesh that was his clitoris. He began to rub it firmly and gently. The warmth that he was feeling began to spread out from between his legs, to the rest of his body.

Smiling, Carson got up and thought to himself, “This deserves some more investigation.”

Going in to the bedroom, Carson went to the drawer where Daniel and he kept their toys. Picking out a vibrator, he cleaned it and then went and lay down on the bed. Lying down he spread his legs and found his clitoris again. Turning the vibrator on he placed it against it and began to rub. The connections were immediate and intense and Carson cried out in a voice that was not his own. Despite the feeling that this was not right, he couldn’t help taking himself to orgasm. It was strong and hard and was different from anything that he had experienced before. Even having his prostate stroked was nothing like this. His orgasm seemed to last for hours as he came again and again. After he had finished climaxing, he lay on the bed quivering in the aftermath. With a smile on his face he drifted off to sleep.

As Carson woke up he looked at the clock. It was eleven thirty  in the morning.

Carson thought to himself, “Crap! I’m going to get it from Carolyn. My shift started at nine.”

Rushing in to the bathroom he got in to the shower. God. It all felt so weird. This wasn’t his body and he was having difficulties getting used to it. Especially having all this hair. After his shower he rushed to get ready. He was lucky that Daniel had a really good hair brush. It was a throwback to the days when he had longer hair. As Carson pulled it through his hair, he was glad as he really didn’t fancy trying to drag a comb through it.

Carson grabbed a towel and wrapped it round his waist.

“We’ll have to get bigger towels.” he thought as he rushed in to the bedroom to dry his hair.

After this Carson looked around for some underwear. This was when it really hit him. He had nothing suitable for a woman to wear.

“OK. I will have to add underwear and clothes to the shopping list too.” Carson’s brow furrowed as he pulled on his boxers.

Carson felt uncomfortable but there was nothing he could do. He was late enough as it was so going shopping was out of the question. He then cast about for clothes to wear. Picking up one of his own shirts, he had a feeling that it may not be big enough. So he grabbed one of Daniel’s and put that on before pulling on his jeans.  He was also aware of how loose they were so he grabbed his belt and pulled it on. Going it to the kitchen, he cut a new hole for it so he could fasten it tightly. Then he went back and looked in the mirror. The figure that looked back was a women in men's clothing and it still felt strange and wrong, but there was nothing he could do about it.

Grabbing his ID and keys to the SUV Carson headed out the door. As he got in to the car he became aware that it felt bigger. This was strange as he was no shorter than he had been before. Even wearing the seat belt felt strange. He pondered all these thoughts as he headed to the mountain.  As he got to the gate a guard stepped out from the security checkpoint and looked at his ID card. As Carson drove the SUV in to a parking space the guard picked up the phone and made a phone call.

When Carson made it to the lift, he was met by a group of armed soldiers.

One of them stepped forward and said, “ I am under orders from General Landry to escort you in to this facility. Please follow me.”

Carson looked worried. He hadn’t considered what would happen when he came to the mountain. His only hope was that he could convince them that the person stood before them was Carson Beckett. Even if he did look like a woman.

SGCSGCSGCSGC

General Landry looked down at the figure that stood in the isolation room. He had to find out who she was and why she had turned up at the mountain with Dr Beckett’s ID. What had she hoped to achieve by this? It just didn’t make any sense.

Walter walked in to the room. The General turned towards him and opened his mouth to speak.

Walter jumped in and said, “She arrived at the top gate in what we believe to be Dr Jackson’s SUV.” The General looked at him and he continued, “ We are checking the vehicles plate just now. No we do not know how or why this young lady has Dr Beckett’s ID and no, we don’t know the whereabouts of Dr Beckett”

General Landry lifted a finger as if to say something when Walter continued, ‘ Yes sir. I have your coffee. White with two sugars. Just the way you like it.”

Walter handed him a mug of steaming coffee.

General Henry Landry took the coffee and looked at Walter. He had been warned about Walter’s talent but there were still times when he really found it unnerving. And for reasons that he couldn't quite put his finger on, today was one of those days!

Walter looked at him and said, " If there is nothing else sir, I will get back to my post." As he headed out of the door, he turned back and added, " I took the liberty of telling Col Mitchell that you wanted to see him. He should be here in a moment."

With that Walter was gone and Col Cameron Mitchell was standing there instead. "Walter told me that you wanted to see me sir."

General Landry motioned to him to come in. "Look at the screens and tell me what you see?"

Cam walked over and took a look. " I see a woman who really needs to get a better dress sense. Why?"

Turning in his seat Landry faced Cam. "That woman turned up at the gate today carrying Dr Beckett's ID. We have no idea who she is, how she got it or what she was hoping to achieve."

Cam looked at the screen and then down at the figure that was currently pacing up and down in the isolation room. "So you want me to talk to her?"

Landry came and stood beside him. " Yes. We need to find out what's going on. If anything has happened to Dr Beckett, we need to know. And we need to know as soon as we can so appropriate action can be taken."

Cam sighed and said, " I got it."

With that Cam headed out the door and down to the isolation room. General Landry looked down at the pacing figure and sighed. " It's going to be one of those days." he thought to himself.

SGCSGCSGCSGC

Carson was pacing around the isolation room. He was not a criminal and yet that was the way he was being treated. Of course, there was the 'small' fact that he had been changed in to a woman. But he was sure that if he was given a chance to explain he could make them understand.

Cam walked in to the room and regarded the woman. She was about Carson's height and as she stared at him, he noticed that her eyes were blue like his. The more Cam looked the more he thought about this woman and wondered " What the hell is going on?"

Cam looked at the woman and motioned for her to sit down. " Please. If you don't mind. I'd like to ask you some questions."

Carson looked at him and sat down. He had a pretty good idea of what was coming and didn't really know what to do.

"OK. Lets get started"  Cam looked at her but got no response. Taking hold of Carson's ID he continued, " I just need to know how you got hold of this."

Carson looked at him and said, " It's mine. I'm Dr Beckett. I share an apartment with Dr Daniel Jackson and I have been working for the SGC since the start of the Atlantis expedition."

"Wrong. Try again." he said, brandishing the ID." How did you get this ID?"

"I told you. It's mine. I'm Carson Beckett. I was talking to Daniel last night and then I woke up like this. I swear to you I am Dr Carson Beckett."

Cam was beginning to loose his patience with her and it was beginning to show. "I'm sorry. I don't believe you. Who are you, how did you get hold of this ID and where is Dr Beckett?"

Carson was really beginning to get angry. Standing up quickly, tipping the chair backwards to the floor as he did so, he slammed his hands down on the desk. " I have told you lad.  I am Carson Beckett and I am standing right in front of you. I'm not lying."

Cam was more than aware that she was beginning to get angry but he still wasn't buying it. "Come on. You don't really expect me to believe that do you? Why don't you just tell me the truth and then we can get out of here."

At this Carson lost his temper completely, lungeing over the table at Cam. Shouting at the top of his voice he said, " I don't care what you believe. I am  Dr Carson Beckett. I live with Dr Daniel Jackson and that is my ID. Nothing has happened to Dr Beckett because I am standing in-front of you."

One of the guards moved from the door to the table and pulled Carson back to his seat. " Why can't  I get you to understand? I have no idea what happened to me. I was talking to Daniel last night and then I woke up like this." The frustration that he was feeling began to show itself as he began to sob, the tears running down his face. "I've been on the Atlantis expedition from the beginning. Atlantis was underwater when we went through. How would I know this if I wasn't Dr Beckett?"

Up in the observation room, the General had been joined by the base CMO Dr Carolyn Lam. They had both been looking at the proceedings that were unfurling below. She sighed and turned to talk to him.

"From the way that she is acting, I would say that she believes that what she is saying is the truth but I'm no psychologist." She looked down at the figure, who now had her head in her hands. "There is one way we could find out for sure.... "

Landry looked at her and asked, 'And that would be?"

"We still have the DNA profiles of every member of the Atlantis expedition on file. If I could get a blood sample I could run a test for a DNA match for Dr Beckett. The test will take twenty four hours. May I suggest that we keep her on the base until the results come back."

The General thought for a moment, "All right. Go and do it. It will answer the question once and for all. And when you have finished get the guards to escort her to our guest quarters."

Dr Lam walked in to the isolation room carrying the equipment she needed. She walked over and set it down on the desk.

She looked at Colonel Mitchell who nodded at her and stood up and left the room.  She then took his place at the table.

"I am Dr Carolyn Lam, Chief Medical Officer of this base. So you say that you are Dr Carson Beckett? "

Carson nodded to her.

"There's one way we could know for sure. I'd like to take a blood sample so we can compare DNA. Is that OK?"

Carson kicked himself. If he had thought of that earlier, he may have been able to suggest it himself. "Aye lass. Please. I should've have suggested it myself."

Carson took off his jacket and rolled up the sleeve of his shirt.  No matter how much he saw the feminine arm the was revealed, he still couldn't get used to it. He smiled at Carolyn and offered up his arm to her.  Carolyn looked at the woman with a smile. Taking her arm she proceeded to take the blood sample. Carson winced as he felt the needle go in to the skin. This body felt pain differently. That was going to take some getting used to as well.

When  Carolyn had finished, she perched on the edge of the table and said,  "I'm sorry this is going to take twenty four hours. As a result of this, under the instructions of General Landry, I have to inform you that you will be escorted to our guest quarters, where you will stay until the result of the test in known."

Carson winced at the thought of that as he would miss his call to Daniel. Mind you with things being as they were maybe that wasn't such a bad thing. He was having enough difficulty getting to grips what had happened, without having to try to explain it to anyone else. Especially when that person was Daniel. Dr Lam nodded to the guards who moved over to the table. Carson stood up and went with them. It was just twenty fours hours,. one day. That day turned out to be the hardest twenty four hours of his life. The only time he got out of the room was to go to the mess and to use the facilities. Even then, he was accompanied by guards.  When he was back in the room all he did was pace up and down.  Waiting was so hard.
