Wah, you killed the kitten! Poor, poor kitty and poor Spike. At least Spike made the right choice in the end.

No one ever remembers that I said the kitten was going to die way back in chapter one!

But this is a morality play, so you know death is only a new beginning--if Spike does what he should.

I did remember that you said you were going to kill the kitten, but it still makes me sad all the same, especially as you spent so much time getting us attached to the poor fated kitty.

I was rather mean that way. It looked like I was giving Spike time to bond with the kitten, but it was the readers I was going after.

But authors must be ruthless. All my writing books tell me so.

I loved this chapter the very first time I read it. There's mirroring again
- of the spiritual and physical Her spiritual heart, her warrior's heart was strong but the heart beating in her chest could no longer maintain life.
- of the reactions of a vampire and of a human But Dawn was not Drusilla. If he didn't get the money, if he couldn't buy a crossbow, Dawn would understand!

And then there's Spike's instinctive understanding Vampires know, more than any other, that death is not an end, merely a change, that leads him to a decision he would see that his kitten was made a goddess yet.

Even though I knew the kitten was to die, her death made me sniffle again for both of them. Spike treated her so tenderly and a long time had passed since anyone had shown such joy simply to be in his presence.

I knew that having Spike grow fond of a kitten would be a hard sell, but it did seem to me, at this time in Spike's life that he would respond to affection.

In some ways, he isn't reacting to the kitten at all, but to everything else that has happened in his life.

Exactly! But then that's the whole point of a morality tale.

I'm curious about your new default icon. Why potato?

It's actually the title for my latest original fic idea.

I've stalled on Fimbulwinter and decided to let it rest for a bit.

The new story involves humans, who allow themselves to be possessed by demons in return for revenge done or some nefarious deed.

Humans who are possessed too often though lose their memories and personality. The demons call them potato skins because there is nothing inside.

I always picture my protagonists as looking much like James Marsters! Hopefully, I'll get one of these stories written, sold, and made into a movie so he can play the lead.

Awww poor little kitty!!! Hopefully the kitty can still be a goddess and everything will work out. Very nice detail about Joyce's grave and that being the thing to break Spike out of his bloodlust to understand that he loves the kitty. Can't wait to see the next installment.
