i walked along a nice
canal the other day. we had three whole days of sunshine! in a row! it's suitably grey again today but such is life.
i went to glasgow yesterday! it was incredibly boring. i should have planned it out better. our plan was shopping and then some museums and such, but we didn't make it to museums. i guess we thought it'd be like edinburgh where you arrive and everything is right there and handy, but alas, alack! i didn't even buy anything. i should have told tia (colum's old flatmate) we were going but i didn't use my computer for about three days and she doesn't have a phone, so there you go. she is coming here this saturday for a craft fair... maybe she will come friday evening, as colum is going to be here then (!!!). i'm quite excited that colum is coming! i haven't seen him since august.
right, glasgow.
we tried to drink in a park but some nice policemen came along and told us we weren't allowed to. they were very understanding, and seemed amused that we represented five countries (canada, us, germany, australia, south africa). we carried our beers around to some random pubs and then drank on the train. i thought we would get in trouble for drinking on the train, even though they sell beer, but we didn't. we were being loud and obnoxious. it was fun! i had never been drunk on a train before. on the way there i read everyone a story from this old book of short, cheesy love stories that we found in our room. the train rides were the best part of the trip!
i found an arts collective! it's a volunteer-run cafe/art gallery/hangout spot/ venue. they produce cds, publish books/zines, give grants etc. i'm going to volunteer there tomorrow! i am excited!
so much drinking. i played a terrible game of trivial pursuit last night.
last friday was a going away party and the theme was that we had to dress up like the people who were leaving, namely black and skulls and things. i think there was a half hour in there where people were just posing for each other and taking lots of pictures.
sometime last week i went into varsity music and asked to play a piano. for just five pounds! they'll let you play a piano in the back. i thought they had a proper studio back there but it's just the back of the shop with a dozen or so pianos. i felt like a kid in a candy shop! i played most of them but finally settled on an old... steinway? it was from the 20's and had the mellowest, clearest lower register i've ever heard (there was a baby grand but it sounded like shit and the action was really strange)! the guy came through to fax something and asked if i had a favourite; the very one i'm playing, i replied. he said that it had better sound good, as it was worth over five thousand pounds. i am, as i type, charging up my recording device so that i can record the next time i go back.
a nice american girl in the room next to mine loaned me "watchmen" and i am looking forward to reading it. i am also reading siddhartha and lady chatterly's lover, the latter of which i don't think i'll finish because it's very depressing.
i upgraded my flickr account and so now i'm uploading my pictures at full size but it is taking forever! it would doubtless be faster to shrink them with gimp, but this is a bit easier. i am feeling lazy.
no one is emailing me and it makes me sad.
if you want a postcard, comment with your address or email it to me. i will be writing postcards soon.
