My Yiynova MSP19 died earlier while I was juggling monitors trying to get my game capture device set up. There was a newer version of the Yiynova, the MSP19U, which I was considering purchasing but hadn't intended to upgrade like that. But thanks to donations from the comic readers and a weekend gaming marathon I got the funds together and ordered a replacement.
I received the new Yiynova tablet on Thursday but when I installed it, I got nothing. As I needed a working computer to stream on Friday I fiddled with it as much as I could but then just used it as a monitor for the rest of the day until my stream was over.
The Yiynova's American distributor is called The Panda City and they are very good at technical support. They told me that the tablet does not like being on a VGA extension cable so I had to do some monitor juggling and put the tablet in as my main monitor (the Yiynova is a 19-inch screen while my old main was a 24-inch). After hooking it up directly the computer saw it, but would either give me no pen use at all or pen use with no pressure sensitivity.
I spent the better part of yesterday troubleshooting it and talking with Panda City more, who suggested I make sure all the old drivers from the previous Yiynova were uninstalled. I did so and got a little farther, but like before the times the tablet worked I got no pressure sensitivity.
So I uninstalled and reinstalled about a dozen times, then went to bed after a six hour art marathon. (I have an option for customers where they can buy me for six hours, wherein I will draw whatever they want or will game with them and someone snagged it)
This morning after starting the uninstall/reinstall dance again, I decided to try going into the drivers folder and manually ripping out the tablet drivers, pasting in the right ones, and then trying to install it one more time. A reboot later and the elusive 'tablet' icon appeared in my system tray, signifying that this time it had worked.
I haven't used it extensively yet, but in my first little experiments with the tablet I can say that it is definitely more sensitive and stable than the old Yiynova. The pointer for the previous model was a little shaky and the pressure sensitivity, although there, was not as great as the Cintiq.
So, I have a working tablet monitor once more. Someone mentioned that after watching my fuss they considered just saving up for a large Cintiq, but let's compare here. The Wacom 22HD is $2,000. The Yiynova MSP19U is $600 and probably would have installed cleanly had I not owned the previous model. Plus when I owned a Cintiq I had plenty of problems with it as well as it loved randomly uninstalling itself.
The past few days trying to get it to work have been frustrating, but I'd prefer three days of frustration over having to cough up an extra $1,400.
