There are actually people referencing Freud as a serious source on psych in fics?

.........dude. The man was a sexually obsessed twat. His name has basically become synonymous with dick jokes.

Although to be fair, I can see psychoanalytic therapy being used as a fic device in the order where a character is being *told* they're insane, but the questioner is actually interrogating them under the guise of psychoanalysis.

"Tell me about your mother....."

Even more unfortunately, people pay huge amounts of money to people just to sit and listen to them talk...because either no one else will listen, or they're too afraid of the reaction.

Not only have I seen people quoted Freud in fics, but also on TV. It seems the majority of times you see a psychologist on TV, especially if they are in a guest role, they will be quoting Freudian or psychoanalytic theory. No wonder no one takes psychology seriously!

Psychoanalysis is a mess and unfortunatly it's very much still in practice. As far as I'm concerned you're effectively conning people to give you money for doing nothing. And yet, apparently Psychoanlysis training course applications are on the rise...
