J&I looked at a house last night. We weren't really planning a move. I can't imagine trying to pack a house with this terror toddler, let alone Sam on the Move. This house, however, had much more land than we have at the moment (~12 acres). It had been a horse farm, if having that much land and a stable for up to three horses counts as a horse farm.
We weren't sure about the house from the photos available online, but we decided to check it out. We liked the house far more than we expected to do, even though it's smaller than this house and has an unusual even counterintuitive layout. However, the house needed a lot of work, far more than we could do ourselves at our age and more than we could afford to do with a child who has no sense of danger. I could also see her venturing from the visible play area to the woods surrounding the property.
It's a shame, though, because it's such a great opportunity, as close to work and Church as we are now, closer to the highway and shopping areas, just as private, and costs less than what we have now, including lower taxes. Since we've already paid off a huge chuck of our mortgage, it would mean a way lower mortgage payment. It wouldn't matter that the rooms are small, since one brother never visits, the other will be living nearby soon, and my parents rarely come up. J's family never comes over, either, especially since Dad is ill and the girls are more interested in controlling J than being sisters and involving him equally in any family events (other than that one we forced them to accept and it didn't happen due to an airline cancellation - truth in advertising in case they read this.), and J doesn't let anyone control him.
Ah, well, I could envision having a hard time selling it, too, when the time came for us to make our move to Idaho. I guess the longer-term goals need to take priority. It's always worked out for us in the past when we did that, so I think keeping the trend will reveal blessings later.
