new intern and jo's brilliant idea

so my new intern finally arrived yesterday. she seems bright and cheerful. that's always good. we'll see how things go next week for intensive training. this is a great experience for me.

it was a calm day at work. i picked up a little work on yet another project with a big client in Toronto, CIFFA (canadian international freight forwarding association). olivier signed another contract with them a couple days ago and has since been in a good mood. although he completely blew up at the intern who works on quality standards for the company for being innovative basically. all the other top people liked what she did but he blew up and made her cry :( animedia is unfortunately not a real company by US standards bc they are so lacking in the HR department. and olivier also seems to be assuming i'm staying after september 29. as we get closer to sept 10 (my last day to decide whether i stay or not) i will remind him that i haven't budged on salary terms.

i'm getting very excited for calling hp. i wonder if i could actually get a new client for the firm... that would be pretty awesome. in a huge way.

the brilliant idea: from the brilliant jo:
and then i need to download the course content for that cs class and get up to speed on javascript and cs design, etc. http://www.google.com/support/jobs/bin/answer.py?answer=23690

that's what i want. jo's idea is that i should use my experience at animedia more directly, and that going on transferable skills won't get me very far. she's right... all i have to do is learn enough javascript and cs jargon to get through the interviews. the rest i could learn on the job. but i need to learn about HCI, Human Computer Interaction, and UI, User Interface. HCI and UI jargon. javascript. for a google engineer salary and benefits and company culture, i think i can handle it. YES!!! bring it. :)

and today we're going to buy food and house supplies, and enjoy wonderful paris. i'm in sublime happiness. all is well. pierre and i are doing so well right now, and tomorrow we might run away to deauville tomorrow! ok pierre wants my attention right now. brb.

now he's on the phone with a classmate. they're waiting nervously for their grades to be emailed

so yea i really would like to go to deauville tomorrow. go north, get some cool ocean air... mmmmmmm
