What do you do when your practice gets stagnant? I have done a few different things at different stages in my life as a practicing Pagan when my practice has become boring, stale or stagnant... sometimes I just need to read a new book and try out a new idea. That's what I mostly did as a teenager when I would go crazy borrowing Pagan books from the library. Over the past few years I have tried to read different material to give me a push as well. I've branched into Chaos magic a little bit, as well as "Shamanic" witchcraft practices as outlined by Christopher Penczak and Gede Parma (and I hope to read more books along this vein in the future). I have looked into rune and tarot symbolism and their use in magic. I also bought the Hoodoo Voodoo Spellbook, which is kind of fun, even if some of the spells are a bit ethically dubious!
Sometimes I just need to get outdoors and hang out and commune with mother earth, sometimes I need to get out there and meet like-minded others to get some fresh energy and ideas. At times I have even looked outside Paganism to other faiths and traditions (such as Reiki, new agey stuff, Buddhism, Hinduism, even a bit of Christianity) and that's totally cool because the Gods of Paganism aren't jealous Gods. :) The most recent thing I've done to shake up my practice is join the IDGAF tradition and make a commitment to their initiation process. Making this dedication to learning and having a more regular practice has been and will continue to be a great thing to keep my practice fresh, interesting and exiting for me. :)
I'll post about my practice and what I did for Samhain in another post, possibly later on tonight, if not tomorrow sometime. Thanks for reading and blessed be. xx
