Take Me Away, [Mai (implied Mai/Ty Lee), G]beccastareyesJuly 14 2008, 00:27:21 UTC
Her father had sent for the family, and Mai had escaped to the roof to get away from packing and watching her brother. She had the other message cylinder with her. She opened it, reading in Ty Lee's bubbly handwriting about her impromptu trip and her new friends.
Mai wondered if the circus would have room for a knife-thrower and had to admit, that Ty Lee was brave for running away. She wished Ty Lee would come back, though, to take her away from the boredom, like some kind of hero from a tale.

[Spoilers for The Boiling Rock!]
The cell is cold, and she can't tell if she's still breathing, if sunlight still exists in a room, a world without. She traces thin fingers through each curve in the stone, waits and waits and waits.
On the fourth day: a hand, calloused, settles in her hair. "Mai," a small voice whispers, and she doesn't know what to say, so she just reaches up, brushes her fingertips along Ty Lee's wrists, and the girl sighs, suddenly at ease.
On the ninth day: Ty Lee grips her hand, so hard that she can feel it in her chest, along the low of her back. "I think I'm alone," the girl says to no one in particular, and Mai can't see her face but she thinks the girl is smiling, smiling, as though it is all but a dream
