Adventure!
Excitement!
Friday morning I had ALOT of errands to run before we left for Salem, Oregon.
#1. Pick up paycheck
#2. Cash paycheck
#3. Get money orders
#4. Drop them off for rent/fees so Im not evicted.
#5. Pick of Rx.
Thats alot to do when you have to leave by noon. Especially when you dont wake up till 10:30, or leave till 11:30.
I made many mistakes and forgot things regularly. We got on the freeway about 2pm. James and Erik in tow.
Is it wrong for me to want to yell at two alcoholics and say, you guys drank a fifth of rum last night, EACH.. why do you need beer already?!
Anyways, much fun was had. Jesse drove the WHOLE WAY BOTH WAYS.. because he is a stud and awesome. I did my girlfriend-y duty which was give his arms/shoulders massages, open his food for him, and tell him "thanks" repeatedly for doing something like 16 hours of driving in 48 hours. Actually, more like 20 hours with errand running, driving to-from entertainment, etc...
We stayed with my pally Petey
peteymigs and Meghan. I never really got to know how Erik and James felt about staying in the house of a cop. Really, probably not a comfy situation for those guys. Hehe. Erik mentioned once that he thinks he has a warrant out in Idaho, and good thing they were staying in a OREGON cops house. Hehe.
Sidenote: Never play the "I just had the WORST day at work!" game with a cop. You will ALWAYS lose.
Petey and Meghan were alot of fun, we got to chat with them alittle but Petey is REALLY busy with work and law school, and Meghan kicks the ass of meth heads pretty constantly so, yeah, sadly not alot of hang-out time with them those two days.
Jesse and I shared a SINGLE bed. A SINGLE! Which means,.. if Jesse is crushed against the wall, and I am hanging onto the edge of the bed through pure strength of will, we can both lie side-by-side next to eachother on the bed. There was also a large friendly dog, a Cat in a Basket and two other cutey cats to play with. I WANT A CAT IN A BASKET!
They have a grey cat that always sleeps in a little wicker basket on their coffeetable.
Saturday day was CAKE DAY!
We were a-goin' to the a-fair-i-o to see The Decemberists, the Violent Femmes, and Cake!!
It was hot. Ever so hot. We went to see Talladega Nights at the theatre, since we didnt want to spend all day at the fair, where hotness and outside live.
I was actually really surprised, laughed alot and enjoyed myself alot at that movie. :)
Erik had a case of heat stroke and dehydration from sleeping in a tent in the sun until after 11am on a 95 degree day, after downing an entire fifth of cheap rum the night before. He spent the day puking randomly on sidewalks and into garbage cans wherever we were. That is the kind of thing where it is REALLY fucking gross, and the feeling of being grossed out and feeling bad for the person for being so sick are at constant war and you're never sure which is winning.
So, about two hours before the concert, the concert was general admission and there was a line about 100 people long waiting for the doors to open. I suggested we get our will-call tickets and wait in line, even though its hot. I wasnt strong in my idea so we went to the beer garden instead and watched the slingshot bungie ride.
Sidenote: The bungie ride is like paying to be scared to death, to me. Pretty much, two people get strapped into a seat and harness, are then shot 100ft into the air, fall almost all the way back to the ground in a freefall, and bounce up/down/up/down/up/down while spinning for about another 45 seconds. AHHH! WHY!!?! SCARY!!
About a half hour before the concert started, we went to get in line and O MY GOD! The line was like 600 people long now and wound around this HUGE field in strange and confusing cross-cross designs and once the line FINALLY started moving, all the people showing up late just cut in line. I told many of them who tried to get in with us, 'Uh, the back of the line is about 700 people THAT way! *points behind herself*
I was grumpy from the tiny bed, the hot day, and the long line. I yelled at people.
We got some pretty good seats none the less EXCEPT that there was a constant stream of people walking in front of us.
Can I just say,... someday I wish I will be rich and bored enough to go to concerts, show up late, mill around during the concert like Im bored and would rather annoy other people than watch the concert and enjoy it.
We were in the bleachers and I people just MILLED AROUND the WHOLE TIME!! Like it was REALLY bad during The Decemberists.. got slightly better during The Violent Femmes,.. but I was still forced to scream at people phrases like, "SIT DOWN!" "FIND A PLACE AND STAY THERE!" and "I CAN'T SEE THE SHOW GODDAMNIT! MOOOOOOOOVE!!!" because we were in a front row and people kept trying to loiter in this place RIGHT IN FRONT OF US and block our ENTIRE VIEW. I threw pennies at quite a few of them. Because the guys didn't like me doing that, we started taking turns getting up and telling them to move.
The concert was like 4 hours long! It was AWESOME! I got a Violent Femmes t-shirt.. even though it was a HUGE splurge to buy. Except their booth was totally old out of normal sizes. They had only XS and XXL shirts. Nothing in between. I lucked upon a Men's Small and bought it. The VF kicked MUCH ass. I had lots of fun rocking out, singing along (The first time I see a band in concert, Ill lip sync.. but not sing outloud unless they ask the crowd. After that viewing, Ill sing along.)
I was REVVED.
The Decemberists' opened. And they were good... they are sort of laid back. They are hard to get psyched about when you only know their singles and they are a pretty quiet band..
THE VF kicked ass and I was happy. There were some small local bands on a "B" stage inbetween the big shows. One, "Derby" was pretty good. Then.. it was CAKE!
VF played "Add it Up" and "The Country Death Song".. I was happy. Brian Ritchie brought out his magic and played his 6 string acoustic bass, standing bass, one string bass, 4 string electric, vibraphone and recorder.
Gano kicked alittle ass on the fiddle. Good times were had.
I got to hear "Shadow Stabbing" and "Guitar Man".. Jesse got to hear "Comfort Eagle"... and although I was REALLY hoping to hear "I Bombed Korea Every Night".. I was happy. There was alot of sing-alongs.. and the lead guy was really fun and talkitive.
It was SO HOT IN THERE!! Four hours on a 96 degree day in a non-airconditioned closed-air pavillion with like 5,000 people.
There were alot of people with babies there. Thats weird. Seems like noises that loud and new baby ears probably shouldn't go together.
We made a barricade of garbage cans so people wouldnt stand in front of us anymore. It mostly worked. Life was good.
Got back from the concert. Slept. Had a great breakfast, Jesse drove us the long long long way home.. and then we slept some more.
Overall? Great fucking weekend.
