I Interrupt This Promotional Video To Gape At Subtle Sexism... YET AGAIN....

Jan 19, 2021 16:44

So... I am on the internets.
Internetting.
(digging for hip-hop groups from the PNW
that I've never heard of)
And... sometimes I get distracted by some clickbait,
EVEN THOUGH I AM ON A MISSION
(for non-misogynistic
hip-hop tracks
from local no-namers).

I had an INKLING about this one:
Girl Biker Performs - YOU MUST SEE THIS
because "girl"
when she is obviously a woman,
and generalized click bait demands
to 'see this'.

Whatever.
I click.

I love seeing humans be BADASSES.

Badass.

She does things man-bikers can only dream of,
mostly because they're concerned about what they look like
when they do the splits.
(O, guys... you're so heroically vain and homophobic...)

So... this woman does a good series of trick riding,
and she is eye-catching,
.... but I start getting distracted by the crowd.

I see a kid crawl over to his male-adult-figure
and be like, "Hey.... dad....."
and Male Adult Figure is recording the girl woman biker
on his phone, mesmerized
and shakes off the kid.
The kid... eventually crawls off,
looking for the bathroom or some such.

The dads... with their phones out
have a CERTAIN look in their eyes.

Glazed.

They aren't WATCHING,
they are ignoring her in the present,
to enjoy her in perpetuity.
They are ASSIDUOUSLY recording her...
as if it were their job.

At the end,

she hops off and does the cutest curtsy you've ever seen.

She was great.

2/3rds of the audience is clapping and going, 'woooooo!'
(the expected response)
The other third,
are dudes in t-shirts,
just... doing nothing except
continuing to record her....
eyes glazed...
hands still (for the best quality vid, yo!).

For THEM, the show isn't over.

She's not a live person, either.

They obviously enjoyed the performance...
they were GLUED to it.

But when it comes to literally
the LEAST you can do to thank her?

They've got nothing to give her
except whatever objectifying series of thoughts
they are having AT her.
