^_^ I was gonna make this post tomorrow, but then all the art came in and I played the game through with it all done and it looked so awesome that I got really really excited to I decided to move this development blog up by 24 hours.
Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to announce Version 2 of Project NA: Chapter 1 (Familiar Hands), to be released at the end of this week.
For the most part, version 2 is the same as version 1 - same story, same endings, pretty much the usual. BUT! There’s a few new bells and whistles in this version, not the least of which is some awesome art by the awesome
goatbit !
(If you've forgotten how bad it was the first time around, well, compare with the development blog for
the previous release) In addition, as you can see from the screen shots, I've added menus to the in-game and I've been working on ironing out of some of the kinks in the flow of the code. There's not going to be any big overhaul, since we are working on moving the series forward.
One way or another, the art is complete and all that's left is some basic coding; so Version 2 should be ready for distribution in just a few days. Keep an eye out for it!
(The game contains 410 screens of dialogue.
These screens contain a total of 3,550 words.)
While goatbit's been doing the art for that, I've been working on the script and dialogue coding for Chapter 2 (Who Are You?). The script is almost finished, with only a few more scenes to write. Since I've been coding as I go, I've got all of the dialogue I've written so far set up in the game to give us a comparison word count:
The game contains 728 screens of dialogue.
These screens contain a total of 7,580 words.
And that's the incomplete version, so as you see it's going to be about twice as long as Chapter 1. It'll also have more reply value, since there are four endings to unlock. In addition to more of goatbit's awesome art, the game will also feature two new characters that I think everybody's going to love seeing. We're also experimenting with some new storytelling styles and coding tricks, as well.
Suffice it to say, Chapter 2 is going to be a big step up from Chapter 1. I'm really excited about this, so I'll be keeping everyone updated as best I can. I don't have an estimate for Chapter 2's release yet, but I hope you'll look forward to the release of Chapter 1 version 2 at the end of the week - even if you've already played the game once before, I think you'll be really pleased with the new version. Until then, here's one last piece of awesome bonus art to tide you over:
