Oh man.

Lots of things to report. Bear with me, though, my head is all fuzzy from not getting home til 3:45 from midnight showing of Star Wars. First of all, had an awesome talk with a Firefly watcher, and now know who dies in the movie. Was shocked, and very twitchy, yet want to see it more than ever now! I lent my DVD's over to Chad, so they can all enjoy and join in with the excitement.

Saturday I graduate!!!

Okay. Below is my feelings on Star Wars. I do not think I will have spoilers, but you never know. So read at your own risk.

I rather liked it. I liked it when I played the game, and I knew what was going to happen, but I still was really into it while watching. Erin was right, there were some really cheesy moments, and the dialogue was horrible. There were some poignant moments when the actors actually acted well (GASP) and I think it gave a pretty good view of his fall. It was inevitable, and I liked that feeling. I thought the action sequences were fabulous, and I was delighted at all the lightsaber fights.

Now, there was this fight at the end that just ... rocked. I don't think it surprises anyone to know that Obi-Wan and Anakin have a huge battle in the end, and I think it was sooo interesting. They are at one point on moving debris in a lava pit. Really cool. At the same time, Yoda has a kickass fight with the Emperor. That's a great, great scene. Chad thinks that Hayden Christenson really just does better being evil, which I agree with. He seems to understand Anakin better once he turns, and although he has his moments of whiney arrogance, like toward the end, it's still better than before.

Obi-Wan's the man. I heart Obi-Wan.

I don't think there were really spoilers there. Hrm. We'll see. Anyway. So I get home at 3:45, and fall into bed. 7 o'clock, my mother wakes me up to say that my father wants me to be on his radio show. Usually that wouldn't bother me, but I'm barely awake and grumbling. I stumble over to the phone, and by the time he calls to talk my mind is finally awake just enough to be coherent. We had a good talk, my dad was basically bursting with pride reminding everyone over and over that I'm graduating. He's such a cutie. Anyway, they asked me the oddest question.

This involves politics and Monsieur Bush/republicans, not in a good light, so if you don't want to read it, don't!

It seems some Republicans have put forth the argument that George Lucas is out to get Bush, because Lucas is putting a deliberate attack at Dubya and the war in Iraq through Anakin. This is prettttty surprising. He says that Anakin's line "If you're not with me, you're my enemy" is an attack upon him, since he said something very similar like "If your'e not with me, you're with the terrorists." Yeah. That's freaky all on its own. Lucas is, understandably, a little surprised. lol. Not really, knowing him. Years and years people have compared his movies and the struggle within it to political wars. If you're interested in reading an article, it's here on the NYT for today: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/05/19/movies/19star.html?hp&ex=1116561600&en=fa6d244b63b6cff3&ei=5094&partner=homepage.

Anyway, they asked me about that, and I don't really think it was a deliberate aim, but I can see why people would read in to the actions of the Emperor as very Bush-like. That doesn't mean that it is necessarily an attack, just sometimes fantasy mirrors fact. Really, if conservatives and Bush see ANY comparison to them within a movie, it just makes me wonder if they should perhaps look harder at their own decision to do so. Maybe they believe the comparison is true, and are angry to admit it. In any case, it seems silly to bring politics into a movie that is for entertainment. I don't think people will come out of it thinking "Bush sucks" or anything of that sort. They'll come out saying "Obi-Wan's the man." Duh.
