I love The Wheel of Time but it is some hard going reading. You're going to miss the hectic tone of the first books once it gets to the middle and nothing starts happening. I think I stopped reading around nine or ten, I should pick them back up (no, the series is not finished).
No, I am not making a kissy face. Though I typically purse when posing. If you want, I can show you what my kissy face looks like... it's rather rediculous.
I've been reading the paperback with such scrunched words it's hard to keep track. I am an expert reader but these small and what seems to be ricepaper thin pages gives me a less than pleasant reading experience. I just looked at Borders and Amazon to order the Hardcovers.... but it's going to be expensive... and for what you LJ readers have deemed.... unworthy. I also on Amazon just noticed that there is an 11th book... and also a book about the beginning. I'm weary just thinking about it.
Well it depends. I consider it light reading personally, it's just that it's long and it can be very arduous. The story gets very involving after the third book because you've grown so close to the characters, so if you are looking for that kind of experience (the same as if you would be watching a television show for a while) then I would say keep it up. If you would rather devote your precious reading time to more worthy authors, I'd say drop Jordan and run
Since he is deemed an esteemed best selling author, I will at least indulge him for a few more books. I usually read late at night and when Rand and Mat are detailed to be weary... I feel their pain!
Dude, Robert Jordan used to be so cool until he decided he preferred writing for steady income to finishing an awesome series with any kind of legitimacy. I read a bunch of that series, but lost interest eventually because the books were going nowhere very slowly. Now that he's writing prequels, I doubt I'll ever pick them back up.
After reading Tamora Pierce.... I can say that he is targeting a really mature audience... with all of these hard names that really seem to come from some far away place and time... it's not as easy to read as my smooth flowing Pierce (she's amazing, positive, heartwarming, witty, wholesome) but I am handling it well. I can read a Pierce book in one day... but Jordan is putting me to a task. It's one I welcomed until 3 people in one post have kind of disheartened me. I've enjoyed it so far.... it's like history class... but fiction.
It's weird. I found this author Tamora Pierce... and her books were so compelling that I read everything she's written in less than 2 months. LOTS OF BOOKS. It's like she has allowed me to become a better reader. This is the only reason I can put up with Jordan, tho I really do like his book so far. It's definately slow and I can't really see where he's going with any of these "happenings". Down the road will I even remember whats happened 3000 pages ago? Bleh.
