Well, they will most likely have three or four movies (or more) for you to watch. Reading isn't a bad idea (ever). You could try to sleep for part of it. However, after saying that I know that it's your first international flight and one you've been looking forward to for a long time, so if you're anything like me you'll be wide awake the entire time.

If you're worried about the noise, see if you can afford a pair of comfortable shooting earmuffs. You don't have to get the super expensive ones (I got mine for around $20). After all, you don't want to block out all sound, but most of them muffle out a great deal.

Check and see what kind of meal options they have, and what is included and what you'll have to pay for yourself. It never hurts to have a ziploc bag of chips handy. And soda and water, while more expensive than they need to be, are generally cheaper than the booze for certain.

Don't forget to bring something to help you with the pressure on the ears when you take off and land. It's easy to forget something simple like this when you're excited.

Most of all have a great trip!

Thank you for your tips. I will be sure to keep them in mind :D.

I bought my tickets through American Airlines (but the flight will be operated by Japan Airlines) it's a 787 (which I keep reading is a nice plane).
