Memory lane

Mere just IMed me. She ready my whole journal evidentially, start to finish. Don't worry, this isn't going to take a bad turn, she just wanted to know more about me.

She took great pleasure in reading my 4/2/04 post where I talked about a day we'd spent together. It was back when we were just friends and I really didn't know if we'd ever be anything more. It was a great day of wandering the sights in DC and flirting harmlessly, but it's great to think how 2 1/2 years later we can now look back and smile.

She also saw a post from 8/24/05, a day that has great significance as being the day after 8/23/06, which is when Mere and I first decided to throw "friends" out the window and take a risk as a couple. I was irritatingly vague in the post because I wasn't sure if my X of 2 weeks at the time read my LJ or not, and I wanted to spare her feelings if she did.

In any case, now I can tell it with immunity :-). Mere and I went on a walk in my neighborhood and had been talking for an hour or so while we strolled in a fairly cool evening. We wandered onto the topic of times I'd asked her out and I told her that "I'm sure I'll ask you out again someday, I just can't seem to take no for an answer". It was playful and I smiled. She looked back at me, asked me why I wouldn't ask then. I told her that "I asked just a couple months ago and it doesn't seem like I've waited long enough". She smiled at me, taunting me, and said "how will you know unless you ask?"

I looked at her and sensed (with my amazing deductive powers) that she might be trying to tell me something. My heart caught in my chest when I said "Meredith, would you go out on a date with me?" and my heard actually stopped for a second when she said "Yes" and immediately smiled and walked off a few steps, looking like the cat that had eaten the canary. We strolled and talked a while longer, but I didn't get over the heart pounding in my chest for the next few days.

In closing, I think everyone should go back and read past entries from their LJs at some point. I'm enjoying it a lot.
