Ramblings on the end of the semester
So I've done a craptastic job of updating my LJ - I'll admit that most of my activity on here is RDJ fangirl stuffs - most prominently perusing the KKBB comm and kink meme which acts as a wonderful escape from finals and paper writing.
Besides the fact that this was the last week of classes and that I am still eyeballs deep in essays, this week was pretty damned good.
First - after months of prep and waiting (and then nonwaiting/depression at feeling incompetent), I finally got an internship for the summer. Thank god because I had no clue what the fuck I was gonna do with myself this summer. It's at a relatively small magazine in Baltimore, so yay easy commute!
Second - I got a second job for next year. I've been dying to get a writing tutor position in the Writing Department and after my third semester application I was finally accepted. Seriously it's my dream campus job - being paid to edit and discuss papers with students. I'm an English nerd so really what more could I want?
Third - well seriously my week was already looking awesome, and then Thursday night came around and hell to the fucking YES, it was time for the IRON MAN 2 midnight show. I swear the entirety of the Ithaca/Cornell student body was there and it was epic and fun and the movie kicked ass. And I'm a sucker for angst - so the Tony omg-I'm-dying angst was so great. RDJ proves to be amazing as always and the rest of the cast was great as well. I'll definitely be seeing it again when I go home - because I know the BFF hasn't seen it yet and there's no way a conscientious friend looking out for her well-being could let her get away without the RDJ medicine.
Then it was off to the State Diner for my birthday on Saturday. Yes I'm a simple date - just give me diner breakfast and I'm good to go. Sadly it's not my real birthday, which unfortunately isn't for a couple weeks, but we gotta celebrate while we're all in Ithaca.
Now the awesome is pretty much done and I'm back to working my ass off. I'm doing okay overall except for this Oscar Wilde research essay that's kicking my ass. Of course it's my own damned fault for not really knowing what the hell I'm writing about and therefore rambling for six pages with six more to go.
I just gotta hold out til Wednesday when my daddy is coming up to help me pack and haul everything back home. He hasn't really gotten to see see Ithaca much since he dropped me off as a freshman, so it'll be nice to take him out to dinner and show him around the Commons, etc.
Then I'll be home, where I'd love to just sleep for a couple weeks straight, but I'm actually starting my internship pretty quickly. I'll hit the ground running on the 19th, so that should be an experience.
So for now, I've put Mr. Wilde aside and will probably throw on Wonder Boys before I call it a night. I just love Robert and Michael Douglas so putting them together is great - and Tobey McGuire is surprisingly charming and quirky as hell in it. Just an overall feel good movie.
Tomorrow it's an early Fuse meeting - the last of the semester. And then meeting to discuss some fiction portfolio stuff and ending the day with my art critique (with pizza!).
If only the weather would get above 40 and then I'd be okay. Bring it on finals week - give me your worst.
