It's not May, that wonderful time of the year when everyone in and out of Europe doubts each other's tastes in music, but many countries have been holding their own contests to select their Eurovision entry for this year. Through a combination of obliviousness and bad Internet connection, I've only watched the Irish and the Finnish contests.
I almost slept during the Irish one, so let's not talk about it.
The Finnish contest was pretty interesting. There were some nice/fun songs. The winner was... well, let's say I'm happy for the band, I do realize how much this must mean to them and to people like them, but punk is definitely not my cup of tea. And, well, let's face it, Eurovision stopped being about music a long time ago.
But at least I got to watch and listen to interesting stuff. If I were a Finn, or at least living in Finland, I might have voted for Opera Skaala. Or maybe I wouldn't have because the live performance was kind of bad, but the studio version is pretty fun, and the song sounds unique.

Ok, I might also have an opera bias, but you've got to admit it stands out from all the ballads and generic pop. Never mind the fact this isn't even real opera.
The one I'd have totally voted for is Angelo De Nile, though!

I-I mean, what's that, isn't that some sort of villain song? Look at him - that's Palpatine! It totally is! A hot-looking Palpatine, no less! How can you not want a hot-looking Palpatine in Eurovision?!? And the live performance was actually better than the studio version.
