So, a lot this weekend. Friday night, we went to see Spring Awakening at the Colonial Theater in Boston. It was my Christmas present to Amanda that we could finally enjoy. I picked this show because I wanted to see something new on Broadway. This show won a bunch of Tonys in 2007 and just went on tour. Great music, written by Duncan Sheik. Really rockin' stuff. nudity on stage. Awesome voices, a true ensemble piece. Not for everyone, as it was a little teen-angsty and racy. But we had a superfun time! Plus, taking public transportation to the theater makes it even that much more fun. Top it off with a nice cabbie and narrowly avoiding a skunk on the ride home, and we had a perfect night.
Saturday morning, I read some more of Puzo's The Sicilian. What a great story! Puzo's writing is both folklorish and fairly realistic. Great stuff, I must read some more books by him. We packed up the car and drove to my parents to pick up a nice gift for the newborn Emilyn. It was a baby blanket that mum sewed, and Nicole and Greg absolutely loved it! Back on the road to Albany, we unloaded our stuff at Joan's and then headed over to Greg's to meet the new baby. And what a beautiful little girl she is! We had a great time, everyone came over for dinner, the Celtics won Game 7.
Sunday, we met Rasta and Chris at Professor Java's for breakfast. It's always nice to see them and chat. Back home, Amanda and Joan went shopping, then later, we went back over to Greg's where Amanda made taco pie for dinner. She also made a batch of mac and cheese (which she would not share with me, I had to steal it quietly) for Greg and Nicole for later in the week. Before dinner, I got a hold of Baby Emilyn and she had a nice little cuddle and nap on my chest in her nursery before dinner. Smile.
Monday, we went over to Professor Java's again with Joan then hit the backroads for Shelburne Falls. We got to drive on Rte 2, the Mohawk Trail, again, which winds up and down the other side of big mountains and then trails alongside them and the river. We went to Chef Alan's house for a catering tasting. He was supernice, his house was cute, and he had this great set up for the food in the kitchen. The food was all great, we love Alan, he's auditioning for Pirates of Penzance and sang us a few lines on our way out. The only problem is that his costs are a little steep, steeper than the other caterer we have in mind. So, it's going to be a difficult decison.
A brief stop at Yankee Candle for some seconds candles, we hit the road for home. On the road, we talked about the upcoming wedding, and since mypod is a good friend of mine, it played the John Legend song that I have in mind for our first dance. So that was a good sign! Chris came over to watch the flat tire Celts lose the Magic in Game 1. Not good stuff.
