Yay for winter break!
My finals are all done and I have my grades. They were so-so. I did really well on my ethnography though (it was 36 pages). I think I got a 19.5 out of 20. Talk about awesome!!!! It also boosted my grade in that class.
I learned some valuable lessons this quarter concerning academics. I also learned some other lessons too but let's not get into that, yeah? :P
My mom hasn't been home for Christmas for a long time. Usually she's working her butt off until the day before Christmas, but now she's not working so she can do lots of things...like decorating the house, wrapping all her gifts ahead of time, and baking.
There's this interesting phenomena that happens at my house. We don't really have a lot of sweets/desserts because my brother is a health nut and my mom and I are fat (me more than her). However, when we do get sweets we get a lot. When it rains, it pours. We got lots of different kinds of goodies so we end up having to make choices about what we want for dessert.
This year will be no different.
Mom has made fudge with pecans, peanut butter fudge, Chocolate melt-aways (a delicious concotion of chocolate, coconut, creamy sweet filling, and graham cracker crust), baklava (which is a pain to make!), and flying saucer cookies (some type of giant white cookie). In the next few days she'll also be making pumpkin pie and gingerbread.
That is a lot of desserts.
Now, some of it will go to the neighbors but she made big batches for that reason. A chunk of it will also be staying with us. I'm just glad my father and brother are coming soon so that they can help us eat that stuff.
I'm probably not going to touch the flying saucer cookies because they are made with shortening which is disgusting! Its congealed animal lard!! EWWWW! I'll take fake butter with yogurt, thank you very much.
I'm going to try and bring some pieces of fudge/cookies to Nick since he's been nice enough to let me borrow his Stargate SG-1 DVDs. I can try bringing more to anyone else who wants some. You have to be in Bellingham though, sorry :P
Tonight's the Winter Solstice so Barb, Justin and I (whoever else wants to come can) are going to do something at the Stone Circle. It'll be totally random and improv so don't expect much. Maybe we can do singng? Maybe booze will be involved later. I have some I can contribute.
