birthday cakes

Oh my. Not this sunday, but next sunday, the 14th, I will be responsible for making not one, not two, not even three... but FOUR... birthday cakes. Four.

My neice, my father in law, my father in law's father (my grandfather in law) and my mother in law's brother's wife. Whatever that might make her. An aunt, I guess?

Anyhow, its my father in law's 50th birthday. It's a big deal, so Brian's mom doesn't want him to share a cake, no problem. He's diabetic annyway, so I'm going to make him a small cake. Then it's my favorite little girl's birthday and well, little kids shouldn't have to share cakes. Hers will be the biggest. It will be grand lol.

That leaves gramps and Patty. Brian's mom suggested a joint cake, but it seemed a bit tacky to me because... well, they aren't even from the same side of the family. It's my father in law's dad and my mother in law's sister in law. Confused yet?

Anyhow, I'm just going to make two more small cakes. So there will be three small and one large cake. It's going to be pure insanity. Basically, is what I'm saying.

Now, Sophia's cake is going to be Shrek because she loves him. Dad's will be an outdoors theme with little trees and a pond or some shit. Patty's will just be a simple cake with a swirl design or something.
And I have no idea what to do for grandpa's cake. I'm at a loss. I just want it to be masculine... and suitable for an old guy. I dunno. Thoughts? It's not a landmark birthday and I will need most of my time to focus on Dad and Sophia's cakes.
I thought about doing the sides with crushed nuts maybe. Add a little variety. I'm going to do differnt flavors for the cakes and I'll use fondant on the large one and buttercream on the others. That way, everyone can kind of choose what they want to eat.

Transporting these cakes should be a real blasy blast haha.

Thankfully, this is a paid gig.

I have a little less than a week to think about all this haha. The worst part, as always, is going to be that I work ALL day Saturday, so my cakes must be completed Friday. Thankfully, I am off ALL DAY next friday! Woo hoo! Cake day! Haha.
