Apparently, I was thinking about writing a Fruits Basket story. But then I read the most current translations and believe me, nothing in my f'd up little mind could beat what the original manga-ka is doing. But still, here, for your perusal, my brief attempt at beginning a Fruits Basket story...
Untitled Fruits Basket
“So, Hatori, why exactly did you call this little meeting of the Flower Trio? Did you miss us?” Shigure asked cheerfully.
“Yes, I must know! I was right in the middle of an important creation when you called. Mine was quite put out that I had to leave. The creative process has been completely disrupted!” Ayame complained dramatically.
“It’s about Kyo.” Hatori said quietly, his tone immediately destroying any good humor in the room.
“Graduation is coming up.” Shigure observed.
“And he has yet to defeat Yuki.” Ayame added unhappily.
“Akito has set a date for his confinement. There is to be a final fight between Kyo and Yuki, and if Kyo loses…” Hatori began.
“Then he loses any chance at freedom. It was cruel, Hatori, to give him hope. You know he can’t beat my little brother. He gets emotional during fights, that’s why Yuki always beats him.” Ayame sighed. “Akito is truly a monster.”
“When is the fight to be?” Shigure sounded subdued, less than his usual cheerful self.
“Two days after graduation.” Hatori replied.
“What about Tohru? She doesn’t know about any of this.”
“Akito wants her out of the house the day after graduation. She isn’t to know about any of this. And if she finds out…”
“Then you have to erase her memory, right?”
“Correct.”
“God, this is all so horrible. It might have been better if Tohru had never come into our lives, don’t you think? She’s given all of us hope, and that was especially cruel.”
“Don’t be such a drama queen, Ayame. I, for one, am still the same cynical bastard I’ve always been, Tohru or not.”
“You are such a liar, Shigure! I know for a fact that you’ve been looking for a way to end the curse again, since she’s been in your home. You haven’t done that since high school!”
“Enough, both of you. I just wanted you to be aware of what was coming, so you can prepare the others. Now, I have to get back, Akito doesn’t know I’m gone.”
“Why won’t he just die? Put us all out of our misery!” Ayame muttered mutinously.
“Akito is the head of our family and we owe him our loyalty, Ayame. Don’t forget that he bears the curse for us.” Hatori reprimanded his friend stiffly.
“Right.”
