Summer reading...

I've finally finished the two books I bought to read on holiday. I made my choices from the Summer Reads recommended by Richard and Judy. I have to say , as recommendations go they were pretty good. (I've just looked on their site and it appears they didn't recommend one of the books... which is weird because it has a sticker on it...hmm *shrugs*).

The first I read was The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. My copy is very much suffering from being on holiday, pages falling out, water damage, it's not happy. And I hate having a book that looks like it's been through a war. Apart from that, I enjoyed it. It seems to have received mixed reviews on Amazon and I can understand why. It's a little hard going for a holiday read. However, it is a new and well written take on the Dracula myth. If you like the idea of Anne Rice turned detective/thriller, you may even say it's in the vein of the DaVinci Code (by a vastly superior author), you might like it too.

The second was The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. I didn't even start this until I got home, The Historian having absorbed me for the whole week of my holiday. In a way I'm glad this happened, it meant I was able to sit down and start this book and read it all (nearly) in one sitting. I loved it. It was gorgeous, interesting, original novel beautifully written. If you haven't read it, do.
