I went with my sister tonight to her friend's youth group. It was pretty interesting. They had a special discussion over prop 8 tonight. The people were pretty nice. We may go again

Yeah, I totally agree with that, but someone brought up a good point last night that if anyone can get married, that kind of just reduces it to a contract.
Though I guess that's even more true of all these people who go frollicing off to get married and then end up getting divorced. Like... did you take marriage all that seriously when you were doing it?? :/
Bawwww people fail.
I mean, I actually think that gay couples probably take it even more seriously than most straight couples. I guess my main problem is figuring out if homosexuality is actually wrong or not. :/ al;dfkhakldfj confusion. I need to actually read my bible more and figure it out for myself. As far as I've seen so far (though I didn't look too hard), it was only even mentioned twice, and only in lists of "these are the people who go to hell" and never once by Jesus himself. So that begs the question of if it's actually wrong at all. I mean, these were the same people who said that women shouldn't be leaders in the church, and should cover their heads and stuff.
Well, the bible also condemns shellfish eaters and those that wear mixed fibers...
I understand that people might not be for gay marriage themselves, I'm totally down with that. But I think it's important to remember that not everyone shares the same beliefs--and one of the benefits of living in this country is that we're supposed to be able to have our own beliefs without worrying about government infringing on them.
Thanks for at least considering it, though--so many people won't even think about it and it's the most frustrating thing, ever.
Yeah. That's why I'm reluctant to form an opinion either way before looking into it.
I'd honestly be all for just letting them get married- I'd actually happily want them to, not just "tolerating" it- if it weren't for a lot of people around me always bringing up the whole "well, the bible says..." thing.
Again, it comes down to me just being confused about homosexuality in general. I even like reading Shounen Ai and stuff! And I love my gay friends... It's just hard when half the people I know are going Yes on prop 8! and the other half are going No on prop 8! OTL (of course said people are also homophobes >->)
perhaps it's cos I'm from the font of liberal elitism that is the northeast...but nearly everyone I know thinks that homosexuality is innate--people don't choose to be homosexual.
I didn't choose to be asexual, I just am.
But anyway, like I said, thanks for at least taking the time to consider it.
And whatever you do end up voting, I hope it's what you think is right, even if you do end up saying yes to it.
