ATLA: Sozen's Comet
This is my running commentary during commercials, and my end thoughts. Edit: I added some more thoughts...

yay for zuko choosing Katara~ to go face Azula with him, I mean...
I totally couldn't understand what the lionturtle thing was saying. I even rewound it on my DVR... *Sigh*
Somehow Azula has managed to become even crazier. She has officially lost it. I mean, she did have everyone close to her betray her, so it's understandable, but omg she is scary!
My breath caught when Azula shot lightning at Katara, but my heart stopped when the lightning hit Zuko.
Drat. I almost thought they were going to kiss, but alas. D: I am glad Zuko's alive, though. Very, very glad.
Oh man... I knew that they were going to totally throw us for a loop in this finale, but dang. I just cried for Azula. Cried. Mike and Bryan are geniouses. Not that we didn't know that before, but, OMG.
Whoa. He just... took away his bending!! *sits in silence in awe of Mike and Bryan* It's very fitting. I'm really glad they chose to have Aang do that instead of killing him.
Of course... Maiko and Kataang ended up happening. Maiko didn't feel so off because of the Boiling Lake episodes. I could tell that she really loved him, then, instead of them being together for whatever the hell reasons they seemed to be together for before. But Kataang? It just felt so wrong. Especially after her just saying a few episodes ago that she was confused, and seemed to not really like him that much. I mean, if you've had a year together, and then at least a week or two after he kissed you, and you still don't know if you like him, you probably don't honey. I've learned that the hard way. *sigh* What with Azula and the lightning, they could have easily turned that into Zutara, and the optimist in me almost believed they would. But ah well. Though they did give us a lot of fan service in this and in the last few episodes. I suppose this was a way of giving all three camps a little bit of happiness. And, they're young, and there are always fanfics~~ *insert cheesey Aang smile*
Overall, the ending ending felt a little cheesey, but definitely not as cheesey as it could have been. But the EPIC GRAND FINALE ending was everything I could have hoped for, and more. I knew that even from the first commercial break. The music was so beautiful, and the battles were epic and feirce. The comet being there just made everything that much more epic. I am so glad that The Track Team got to use a full orchestra for this. The music was so powerful and beautiful and wonderful and oh my gosh I want a soundtrack with every second of it, Lord of the Rings: Complete Recordings style.
There are a few things I feel a bit dissapointed about, though. The Cabbage Man wasn't in this season very much at all. If I remember, he was only mentioned in The Ember Island Players, and though that was amazing, I wish he had been in it more. I understand that it didn't really make sense to have him in the fire nation, but still! He was somehow everywhere else they'd been; they could have pulled it off... Another thing, Uncle Iroh wasn't in this season nearly enough. It was really important to the story that Zuko made the final decision on his own, and I'm really glad they did it, but still. D: I guess what I'm trying to say is that the entire feel of this season was different. *sigh* But it was still amazingly brilliant storytelling on Mike and Bryan's part.
Another thing that upsets me is the fate of Smellerbee and Longshot. Did they escape? Were they captured by the Dai Li? Killed? What? We know that Jet was killed by what's his face the leader of the Dai Li, though it was left rather unclear in the actual show, because they said so in interviews. But what about them?? I liked that pairing and those characters. D:
I also wish they had somehow included foamy, but that's a small thing, really.

I want to comment on a few other episodes, too.
I loved Mai's face when Ty Lee chi-blocked Azula. It was so... full of emotion. I really felt for Mai during that entire episode. I used to hate her character- it was so flat- but now I can somewhat accept that she and Zuko are together. Her face though, I can't even describe the emotion it held. Gratitude, surprise, complete and utter shock, and affection for Ty Lee. It was- simply, amazing.
Can I just say that I adore the animators of this show? They really know how to convey emotion, but not make it cheesey. Much love for them. <333333333333333333333333
Another thing: during The Ember Island Players, everyone already commented on most of the awesome stuff, which is, of course, the whole episode, but I watched that episode 4 times to try to catch every little thing. May I say that Zuko's reaction to man!toph was AMAZING? BEST. THING. EVER.
And! Of course, there was the whole Zuko sitting next to Katara thing, and her fixing her hair, and her totally rejecting Aang (*decides not to go on rant about how weird it was that Kataang ended up happening*), and the onstage!zutara, but everyone failed to notice that at the beginning of the play, when Sokka touches her shoulder to point out that they were onstage, she seems to think it is Zuko for a moment, until she looks and sees that it's Sokka. ~<3 (Yay for grasping at straws!).
Anyways, as for Kataang, they should have either shown her emotional growth towards liking Aang, or not had them together in the end. It just felt so unfinished. Basically the whole show she's not thought of him that way- even after the kiss- and then suddenly she likes him and everything's all lovey-dovey? It doesn't make sense... :/ Either that, or not had the kiss in the invasion, and then had them kiss at the end of the finale. I mean, then it would just be like a typical kids/family movie, where the two main guy and girl characters kiss at the end. I could have lived with that. But to have it build up with absolutely no Maiko or Kataang interaction AT ALL in the finaly, and then suddenly end with them? What?
I've heard many accounts of people watching with family members who had never seen the show before, and them going like "wait, I thought zuko was with katara" at the end... And if the creators adored Kataang so much as they claimed to, then why didn't anything happen between them all 3 seasons? Not even a sideways glance on Katara's part. Honestly! Way to fail Bryke!
Really, if they had portrayed Maiko and Kataang in a realistic way- aka, had them look like they even remotely actually loved eachother (though as I said, Mai did seem to actually love Zuko in TBR, but what about all the times before that? Their relationship could basically be summed up as "I'm bored, I hate everything" "oh" "I'm hungry" "so?" "so get me some food" "I hate you" "I hate you too" "it's been five minutes and I still hate you" "good" "okay it's been five more minutes, I don't hate you anymore" "let's kiss!")- then I honestly could have lived with it; I'm super used to my pairings not ending up together in canon. But if you are just going to have it as some cheesy forced romance, why make it canon at all? Just end it ambiguously! I mean, seriously! If they had just ended with Katara and Aang looking at the sunset, it could have been interpreted either way! *rolls eyes*
I'm just going to disregard the last couple of minutes of the finale. What do a couple of guys know about romance anyways?
Bah. Enough rambling for now. I'm sure I'll have much more to say once I rewatch it in 20 minutes~
