A/N: This is done all for fun. It’s not my best work (I’m still coming out of Writer’s Block), but I thought it would be nice to share. :)
“I love you.”
Elphaba, completely caught off guard, almost dropped her book. She looked up from it, her dark eyes wide in confusion and shock. A startled “Fwha?” was all she could manage to respond.
Galinda, who was safely positioned on the opposite side of the room, blushed a very deep pink; if she were of the right mind, she would have despaired over how it clashed with the pale blue gown she had chosen for the day. She looked every which way except at Elphaba, as if something in the room could save her from her torment. “I-I love you,” she squeaked out after a moment of silence. She had a look on her face which promised that she was very close to a heart attack at this moment in time.
The green girl stared at her roommate for the longest time. It looked as if she were assessing her, trying to figure out if all of this was some sort of cruel joke or if it was legitimate. Finally she closed her book and set it aside. “Galinda,” she began, “I think-”
“Please, Elphaba. Please think this through. For me! I’m begging you!” Galinda exclaimed. She hopped off of her bed and dashed over to Elphaba, promptly falling to her knees in front of the other girl and staring up at her with pitiful, tearful blue eyes. “I’ve loved you for the longest time-ever since I met you! I love your hair. I love your skin. I love how you wrinkle your nose when you read particularly interesting bits of the books you like. I love everything about you, Elphaba, and I always will!”
Elphaba frowned. “Galinda, I-”
“I don’t care about what anyone else thinks! They can lock me up in the dungeons of Shiz University-”
“Dungeons?”
“-and starve me for weeks and never let me see the light of day again-”
“Galinda-”
“-but it will never deter my love for you, I swear!”
“Sweet Oz, Galinda! Listen to me!” the green girl exclaimed. She moved off of her chair and sat down beside the distraught blonde. Elphaba refrained from rolling her eyes at the sight of her roommate’s tears; instead, she chose to brush them away, ignoring the sting of the aftermath she felt. She looked into Galinda’s eyes. “I’ll think about it.”
Galinda sniffled, her eyes welling with even more tears. “What?”
“Oh, come now. Stop crying. I’m not dismissing you or anything.”
The blonde wiped her own tears away, though her lip still trembled. She sniffled a little more, her body shaking with the emotional trauma she had placed on herself.
Here, Elphaba did roll her eyes. But she took Galinda’s hand in hers, and she stroked the fingers gently. “I will think about your proposal. There is no need to jump into anything, especially since you have silly ideas about love in your head. What have you been reading?”
Galinda ducked her head in shame. “Some of Ama Clutch’s romance novels,” she mumbled.
“Precisely my point.” Elphaba leaned forward to place a kiss on Galinda’s forehead. “We’ll go out sometime. Maybe to a show in the city. We’ll take it slow. Then maybe we’ll come to a mutual affection in the most rational of minds. Deal?”
The blonde pulled back slightly to look into Elphaba’s eyes. When she saw that Elphaba wasn’t pushing her away-and also that she was really being silly about it all-she smiled. “It’s a date,” she agreed.
And so they both went back to their respective sides of the room, and they stayed there for the rest of the evening.
