LAOS

Okay, so I've been REALLY slack, so I apologise.

At the beginning of June, I went to Laos with my friend Sang, who lives in Vientiane- the capital city. I stayed in Laos for 3 weeks.

My first adventure began when the check point officer at the Laos border flirted with me outrageously- he even asked for my number in Laos! I wondered how many people a day he did that to!

I stayed with Sang at her house with her family- her mother, father, older brother Eung, and two younger sisters Nang and kak. She lived in a little village- like a little community in the capital. It was really nice.. Surrounded by houses, little dirt roads, everyone was friends. Everyday after they finished work, many of the boys from the village would come to the oval infront of all the houses and play futball. I wanted to play- you know me! But I was the only girl, and they were too good for me, so I settled for watching.

Everyday, Sang and I would eat the same meal for breakfast/lunch. The people next door cooked a noodle soup dish at their tiny open shop- and it was awesome too, so I didn't mind eating it everyday. And I started to eat a lot more chili with it... mmmm so good!

We got up early everyday- 7 or 8? We spent our days sleeping, wandering a little to the pond and rice fields, going to Joy- Sang's cousin's house (about 10 metres away), her coming to ours. Kak would sit in front of the TV and play VCD's of Thai kareoke songs. I'd join her sometimes. Sang and Joy would eat the spiciest papaya salad ever. Nang and Eung worked- and were the only ones with motorbikes- hence why we stayed home so much. Occasionally we'd be able to use Nang's motorbike during the day. We went to the bank (for me), down by the river.. To the food market.

The first night I was there we went out- me, Sang, Joy, Kak and Joy's sister Noi. We were joined by quite a few guys from the village and then by some other girls.. T'was a fun night. We ended up at a bowling alley with a measly little bar. Sang, Tum (her friend) and I danced to the music in the bowling area- in a line. What a larf.

Almost every night we went out- the people changed, except me, Sang and Joy were always together. We spent most of our time between two pubs- Top, and Moo hou, where Lae, a guy from the village worked. That was an awesome pub. The first time we went, there were loads of us and had such a fun time. I know I keep saying it, but damn Thai and Lao boys can dance! It's great, they're never self-conscious. They just go out to have a great time and they always do. The girls are the same, the boys are just a bit more full on.

So I did that for a week and a bit. Vientiane's fairly small so there's not a whole lot to see there...
